Posted May 14, 2017 The parent skill Polearms should be looked at it doesn't seem balanced. I have 93 staff 90 spear 90 halberd and less then 66 in parent skill. Even if you say its like that for future weapons I'd still say it is broke
Posted May 14, 2017 Maybe they can fix it when they add 1h spears?
Posted May 14, 2017 I'm sitting at 70 medium mauls and 26 mauls, I'm not expecting them to climb at the same rate or anything but it's pretty stupid that i could get 90 med maul and probably not even get the 50 title from the parent skill without grinding up another maul weapon i'd never use. Posted May 14, 2017 It's something to do with the parent skill.. question is... what's the math behind it.. and is it the same or it's different for axes/swords/mauls/etc..
Posted May 14, 2017 (edited) Seems to me a parent skill should never be gimped in anticipation of future sub skills. If you add new sub skills down the road, then simply recalculate the parent skill and drop it down to the appropriate number to account for the new sub skill. Or, simply get rid of parent skill values completely. Keep them solely for grouping. Edited May 14, 2017 by Wurmhole

Posted May 14, 2017 Here's OP's comparison with "Swords". Obviously something is amiss. Swords 83.747 Longsword 95.378 Shortsword 90.022 Two Handed Sword 90.

Posted May 14, 2017 That polearms feels broken isn't news, I think it took 99, 98+ and 96 for me to break 90 polearms. Apparently that's how its supposed to work on freedom. On the flip side you'll see the servers and get lots of fun in.
Posted May 14, 2017 Awesome post, Zig. Thanks! Still not sure why there is the discrepancy when Beckets BS is higher than BC but Swords is higher than Polearms.

The term "difficulty" here is fairly misleading, as it is a completely separate concept from the difficulty of an action. It doesn't influence how often you get skill ticks, or the results of your skill checks, or anything like that. All it does is affect how much skill you get. For example, a skill with skill difficulty 8000 will get you skill just as often as a skill with skill difficulty 4000, assuming the same actions, but you'll only get half as much skill each time. This is why, for example, weaponsmithing takes so long to raise; with a difficulty of 20,000, each skill tick is only one fifth the size of most crafting skills, which tend to have a difficulty of 4000. CoC(or botd), that boosts weapon specific mastery gains... but not the parent(probably) and even if you grind your way to 100 mastery.. it's hot air under pressure.. parent skill shows the actual work you've done All seems good.. unless somebody wants to poing at difficulties and ask questions why is ... tougher than .. to grind
Posted May 15, 2017 Hmm that could be the reason Finnn the weapons I use all have high coc.
Posted May 15, 2017 Does the parent skill gain suffer at higher levels of the sub though? Or will I still be getting parent ticks even though I am not getting sub ticks?
Posted May 15, 2017 (edited) Difficulty and level difference, your parent skill is lower level, gets skill easier (probably the reason). Another thing.. with 3-4 vs 5 child-weapon-masteries leveled to 90.. you see a difference at the parent weapon-mastery-skill level.. just because 4 vs 5 child-skills feed skill ticks to the parent. But again.. coc/botd probably only helps the child, but not the parent, which is still ok.. player needs mostly the weapon mastery, and if parent skill matters... it's still less important ---offtopic--- devs .. why.. are small-axes so nerfed .. nearly 2x.. less skill mastery gains... ---offtopic--- --edit Either I'm missing something or... sleep bonus with cooking shines here in it's fullest glory hmm Edited May 15, 2017 by Finnn
