Crazy Lag and Client Crash's at TOC

So my deed on Exodus, The Old Contemptibles has been suffering from lag and client crash's. Many people complain that when they get near the deed the frame rate drops to nothing and they struggle to move. I have gotten used to it and my latest pc build seem's to handle it for the most part, but it would be nice to fix the problem so others can enjoy there wurm gaming time around TOC without suffering so much.

 

I will start posting the crash reports and will try to get others to post details in hopes the problem can be found and dealt with.

 

I am usually fine running 2 accounts, and sometimes 3, with 3 clients often I will get to a point where they stop responding and or just go to a white screen. I use stable for the most part as unstable just does not deal with my deed very well at all. My main account is usually running everything at extreme, with my alt accounts having the graphic settings rolled right back to the point of being too ugly to play with.

I've been getting the screenshot crashes as well, although it had a different error message (<null>) in mine. Had it multiple times now.

Us using RX 480's are just in a bad rut, wurm doesn't like our cards in general :(

I have the fix for this (for rx470, rx480 may be slightly different) after wrestling with it for a few months!

In wattman (radeon settings) increase your power limit slider. 10% was more stable for me with my rx470, 20% ran completely stable. I had a case open with a pending rma when I finally found the solution, so I inquired about the change and visiontek support came back with 15% as an acceptable increase for rx470 power limit - also runs stable I am sitting there now. Like I said this may vary for the rx 480 so I would recommend doing some research on the safe power limit range for that model so you don't break something else or decrease the lifespan of your card.

This appears to be a widespread problem for this series of cards that started after the Windows 10 anniversary update, without much helpful information online.

 

I hope this works for everyone else that has the issue as well.

increases the overall garbage collector lag during normal sessions for me and makes the client freezeup and crash when entering toc local even worse. didnt even get as far as disembarking the horse and almost killed it when entering local before the client froze up completely. this hasnt been of any help, sry.

on occasion the one of my clients will crash when I have multiple clients open when leaving my deed or entering/leaving the mine, you get a blue circle spinning and the client does not respond, this does not generate a crash report either, the java has to be shut down to close it out

Jake did you try upping the power limit slider in radeon wattmon? It probably does not apply to the lag issue, but I used to experience the same exact crashes running multiple clients on my rx470. It actually wasn't the multiple clients that caused it - I believe it was increased power draw at the higher clock states because it is much more likely to happen while traveling on one of the accounts/during times of high demand, and it is not wurm-specific (same thing happened while running other games alongside wurm). 

After my post above i had a couple more crashes at +15 power limit, but they were much rarer. +20 has been 100% stable for me no crashes since setting it there.

Nope I looked at that, but not quite sure how to make those changes, really don't want to chance screwing up a video card over wurm either.

 

Can you post a screen shot of how to adjust this?

 

I would prefer the client dev's just to fix this.

This screenshot was sent to me by my card manufacturer as acceptable overclocking settings for the rx470 after I inquired about the power limit setting once I isolated the issue to that. It's the yellow slider at the bottom. To get here run the radeon settings app, click Gaming at the top, then Global Settings, then Global WattMan. The 'acceptable' setting of +15% improved things for me like I said but the issue still persisted, I'm good at 20% and haven't had any adverse side effects. You can keep an eye on your temperature and fan speed while wattman is open as well:

Interesting... is anyone in your local making coal piles?

I had a thing one day.. where client was crashing constantly every 10-20 minutes.. and I was playing with no_world_render,  crashes kept going for few hours... until I moved out of local to unique slaying.. and fps etc.. was O.K., when I returned... I found a few coalpiles in local...

Crashes when taking a screenshot can be due to the screenshot folder containing too many files (like > 500 or so).

 

Please check your screenshot folder and try to keep the number of files lower than a few hundred.

I get the swirl of death quite frequently, often followed by all clients crashing. It happens at my deed, it happened many times at the goblin slaying. It has gotten much worse in the last 2 months. I rarely lagged or crashed before April even with several clients running. Now, I can count on 2 a day at least. The sign text patch was the most noticeable patches that caused issues. I have FBO off because of it and removed any signs nearby. It solved some issues then, but gotten worse since.

yeah this happens to me daily along with tons of embarking issues and memory leaks. not even sure how to report it since java just stops

client crapped out for no reason

 

edit; so just closed out everything for the night and just realized I can hear water laping at the shore. So maybe it is a crash such as this that leaves the background sound running after everything is shut down? Was sailing into a mine when it happened.
