Shared video graphics

Recommended Posts

Hey tech nerds lol

im thinking of buying a cheap tower to play wurm on, will WU work with shared graphics? I dont have any specs in mind but i dont want to spend 2grand on a new desktop, specially when in realirty i only really play WU.. Maybe couple others...

Share your thoughts please

thanks.

If it's a prebuilt pc that only comes with integrated graphics it should be fairly easy to stick a GTX 1050 in it, much preferable and only adds $100 / £100 or so.

If you have a secondary GPU, yes. As Saroman suggested already, adding a GTX 1050 or another cheap GPU would be a good idea.

WU is not working on (most? all?) integrated Intel GPUs (at least not without horrible graphic bugs or other issues)

Since you have not picked ut a systemn yet -- you can get a decent Wurm-only computer for a lot less than 2grand.

this one would run Wurm quite nicely for  $569

In fact it would probably run all but the most demanding games fine. It comes with GTX1050 graphics. And its probably a better deal than off the shelf national brand systems you get from BestBuy.

I haven't bought any computers from ABS lately, but waaaay back in the 1990s, i got all my systems from them (^_^ I is serious. I ran a small business and used only ABS computers.)

ABS Computers later went on to form  NewEgg, a geeky online computer tech shop with one of the best reputations on the internet. Now NewEgg sells ABS computers, making it a win-win in my view since NewEgg will guarantee the system or refund it.

I checked resellerratings.com and ABS Computers still have a very good reputation -- much much better than HP,  Dell,  and other national chain brands.  Seriously, read some of those reviews before you buy a chainbrand system.

if you have an extra $50, toss in another 8G ram for 16GB total   (I checked, it has 4 slots with two now empty and uses DDR3 1600)

But even without that,  this is a much better system than I run Wurm on now, and i can run up to three clients without much trouble (any more are too hard for me to manage onscreen with one monitor)

Thanks for the replies

ive got a laptop that has a dedicated gpu in it, as well as the shared thing, and i tried running the on board and it was just awful, so shared is. Ot really an option, it would need a dedicated vid card as a min spec, the prices you suggested might be ok for where you are, but prices here in oz are double sometimes triple the price, because of the freight and gst and what not.

Cheers

well, i poked around some Australian sites, this one looks like it would be ok for wurm, but we really do not know much about your total budget or other details:

http://pacstarcomputer.com.au/desktop-pc-systems/4-intel-haswell-value-gaming-pc-system-with-gtx950-graphic-card.html

They give an option on graphics, GTX950 or Radeon RX460, I am more familiar with nvidia for wurm so I'd pick the GTX950.

I don't think it includes an operating system, another $140 for win10 unless you have a copy, or go for a free linux distro maybe if it is mostly for wurm+internet.

Can you explain what is wrong with your current computer, the laptop with the dedicated graphics?

around 1000 is what I paid for the current one, so my max would be that limit. this one is around what I would pay, but the problem being is the shipping, as I don't live in a capital city, and this one is around 3000 kms from where I live, look at a map of Australia and then look at the heart shaped island underneath, see that, that's where God comes for his holidays , lol.

these people are in Hobart Australia and they custom build computers at a decent price

http://www.computertrader.com.au/starter.htm

they also have some reconditioned computers:

http://www.computertrader.com.au/recond.htm

if they don't offer a good price on a graphics card to add one (desktop), most Australians I have talked to in the past use StaticICE for ordering online computer stuff

You could also try first using the integrated  AMD Radeon HD 8470, it uses "shared memory" so I would make sure the system has a minimum of 8 gigs

You could also check out this computer builder in Launceston Tasmania:

http://www.pcz4u.com.au/store.aspx#!/PCZ4U-Starter-PC-Desktop/p/63731473/category=18540031

http://www.pcz4u.com.au/store.aspx#!/PCZ4U-Family-PC-Desktop/p/63731477/category=18540031

It sounds like thy might be willing to custom build to specs, but their graphics cards seem priced high so maybe instead order that separately via StaticICE

edit, also these people in Hobart also seem to have decent deals, they have a custom section where you can pick out the exact case, processor, graphics, memory etc:

https://evatech.com.au/customcomputer.php?cat=gamingpc

looks pretty easy to pick out a custom gaming system for under $1000

let me ask again -- Can you explain what is wrong with your current computer, the laptop with the dedicated graphics that you currently use for Wurm?

right cheers for that, I think if I do buy another one, I might contact that first crowd, seems they have better offers than that crowd.

right now i'm redoing all the updates and reinstalling 8.1 from there i'll bounce to win10 and see if it fixes the lagging issue, I was able to play wurm last night on my laptop which has a NVidia GPU inside and it didn't lag at all. as a matter of fact it was running well. which leads me to suspect there might be an issue with my hard drive maybe on the pc. but we'll see how we get on today.

cheers
