Top of the morning to ye Wurmians! It's another Valrei International, keeping you up to date with everything going on in your world, so let's get to it!

 

In light of some discussions this week, I'd like to go over a few things we're working on, while the PvP roadmap coming later will have a bit more info on some things.

 

PvP updates

There's a lot in the works with PvP related overhauls, including the Valrei system as well as priests and spells. These projects are currently under the way as we speak, but these are not simple tasks.

Many factors include identifying how the system is supposed to work, what does and doesn't work with the current system, what we want the system to be and how we want it to work and how prospective changes would fit in with the rest of the game.

Once we have a firm plan ironed out, we'll then begin involving you all in feedback and testing, seeing what needs to be tweaked and adjusted, as well as looking at the overall feel of it and how it meshes in.

 

We completely understand that this is frustrating when you're waiting for it, but it does take time, we'll be seeing a few minor things going out to tone down the effects of valrei (Such as removing terraforming events next update) as well as reducing stun timers from nogumps and other creatures (last update). There's a lot to go through and we'll continue to work on it, as well as work to make sure that you all are kept up to date with what's going on.

 

We're committed to improving PvP, and we'll be providing a bit more PvP oriented road map soon, with Budda breaking out his thesaurus to work on  his first devblog! I don't know when that will land, but stay tuned!

 

Conversions
So many of you might have seen the thread about HotS conversions to player gods where we agreed that it was a less than ideal system. The task we face now is rewriting the outdated conversion system with one that performs better, and makes a bit more sense. This system will allow HotS players to follow player gods, I'm not sure whether it will be BL only player gods or include WL ones, and more info will be given prior to release, but I wanted to share with you all that the current system will be changed fairly soon, being on test within the next two weeks or so.

 

Unstable is a bit more stable!
Good news everyone! We've managed to identify and resolve the disconnect issue with the unstable client! This opens the door for us to address the other issues that arise with the new client, and begin the final bug fixing prior to it becoming the stable client. So please do test it out and play on it and provide all feedback on performance and crashing issues you encounter. If you don't test it now when it's unstable you might encounter an issue when it goes live, and that means trouble!

 

One important thing to remember is there are several new settings in the new client, including shadow map size, and dynamic lighting. Both of these improve the look and feel of the game greatly, but do also impact performance if you run on the lower end, so I'd advise starting with a new configuration, and tweaking it as it goes.

Xanadu Improvements
We've isolated a few issues causing Xanadu's lag, and some may have noticed that things occur a little faster on Xanadu than they used to (coal piles burning!) We've got some other things in the works to address them, and hopefully they improve performance as well!

 And Milosanx returns with a new video from wu! It's always great to see videos from him, and it's a good overview of the new Otherlands server, which opened with the release of 1.3, so check it out!
 


 
 Vortac and Weem have also been hard at work with their Follywood series, which I have enjoyed greatly (and pestered several people with links to) So make sure you check those out as well!

While looking into the Xan lag, can some also look into the Cele lag? It's been getting worse to the point where I've waited minutes to finish an action. :(

The new unstable client does not put a shortcut on my desktop that is the first thing i see but will test and see how things go. 

 

Edit: It might have been because of deleting the old one from before. I just went into java and replaced them. :)

Xanadu Improvements --- this explains why corpses rot before you can get to a token.  Is it also why snowballs decay before you can get to a larder?

A small correction to the video by @Milosanx- the HotS server is also PVE, in fact the first PVE HotS server in Wurm ever :P

This both worries and excites me.  Magic is finally getting peeked at, which is a good thing, but it's from a PvP perspective, which has been less than wonderful in its buffs and QoL changes where magic is concerned.

I feel very much the same. 

 

The statement what what we want it to be somewhat scares me. I hope there is discussion about proposed changes with details as to why and what is trying to be achieved by the change. I also hope we as players weight in  with similar detailed responses. 

 

Wurm team ram should send out emails to all past subscribers about the discussions so the many sideliners could possibly weight in as well.

I've been online for a couple of hours now..no DC.  So nice to be using unstable again.  =)

 

slight edit..I have some issues crossing servers, but other than that it's doing great!

This kind of transparency would be a very welcome and appreciated change. I hope you follow through on it.

Posting again because very excited about this.  Moral on Chaos is not doing so great right now and people keep saying they quitting or selling their accounts because of nothing being done with Chaos and it's issues/balance.

Same thought came to me as well. There seems to be a quiet and persistent encouragement for players to take their toys and go to WU, but of course I might be a tad oversensitive on this.

 

For the sake of the Players that partake in PvP and play on WU, this is a good edition of VI. Thanks Devs on their behalf.

Thus far the Unstable client, for the last week~, has out performed the Stable client in every aspect.  There is one very naggy issue that needs addressed.  Keybinds, the Unstable client, unkocwn how/when, seems to duplicate many times my keybinds inside the file.   Wurm has issues loading profiles when the file gets to a staggering 6mb for a 20kb file. lol.

I'm still getting a lot of lag while playing on unstable client.  I use the same graphic profile with stable and unstable, but unstable gives me 1 second lag every 5 seconds.  I'll try lowering my graphic settings, but then.....why?  Looks bad.  No disconnects which is awesome though, but not playable with the constant pausing.

 

Weird happens on my Windows 10 machine.

Intel Skylake i7

16GB DDR4 Ram

Nvidia 1060 - 6GB Ram on card.

(Plays GTA5 and Battlefield 1 on extreme graphics no issue.)

(I know Wurm is a different beast though.)

 

And Debian machine too.

AMD Athlon X4

8GB DDR3

Nvidia 250

Is this PvP update going to be like an "Over Haul" or just a few small updates that we'll just keep complaining about and then feel like Chaos didn't matter as much again?  I'm getting myself too hyped up on this and want to make sure I can stay hyped.

 

Change and fix the PvP lore would be the main thing.  Not like they've written books about Wurm lore and can't be changed.  Seems you guys can change the game and the lore without Rolf now.

 

You honestly need a dev (not a gm) playing as a regular character on Chaos and being active before they will know what to fix.  Have them go on some raids and fights and see the issue people have.  Go under cover and join a kingdom and don't tell them you are a dev or any part of the Wurm Team.  See how we really play the game then fix it.  We don't always have issues with game mechanics, but with people giving up on the game or doing certain types of fights because of how the game is setup in general.  See those issues and figure out what to change to engage people more.  (Only saying this because I've heard Rolf used to do this.)

 

It's a sandbox so it's not like other games where we all PvP the same under the same rules or physics.  We make our own rules and all play differently.

 

My biggest gripe is some people don't want to fight because they don't want to lose their high skill they grind.  Not a lot of people taking chances.  Some just stay on deed and even tell us they don't want to fight and just craft and do Hota.  That's about it.  I think they only on Chaos so they can sell items for real money.  Doesn't make the GAME fun at all when people focus to make real life money from it.  Guessing on this and have no proof.

 

I've figured out to be able to do anything fun on Chaos you have to buy an account from someone.  Most all accounts that matter in Chaos have been traded, sold or purchased.  There are no new accounts to be afraid of.  Not everyone is into Buying their way into Chaos and that is probably the biggest issue in Wurm PvP.  To me at least.
