If the cooldown is about "how draining it is", have it kill a good chunk o' food bar instead with light to medium wounds resulting from casting while too unfed.

Or if the devs really want to prevent "pet" priests from being too effective just make the CD (30 - 0.29*(channeling)) mins, i.e. 1 min at 100 channeling and 15.5 mins at 50 channeling etc
