Rare coins – what is special about them?

Now, I have searched the forums for this, but did not come with a conclusive answer: what is the actual difference (if any) between a rare coin and a normal coin?

 

Is there some special use? Or are they just fancy blue and you normally put them in the bank to pay for upkeep?

There isn't much of a difference. Rare coins can be sacrificed for a refresh (if you have 10 faith) the same as every other rare item. Other than that, they function exactly the same as regular coins and the rarity does not really affect their value.

 

Prior to the cooking update, you might have found some people who would pay 10c for a 1c or 5c rare coin and they would use it for a refresh. With the cooking update, most people are looking for ccfp, and refresh prevents you from eating food that gives ccfp. You would probably be hard pressed to find anyone who would buy the rare coins anymore.

 

I recommend just depositing the coins into the bank.
