~~~ Duce ~~~ 1972 - 2016
Recommended Posts
We have learned this day that Duce, our friend and colleague, passed away July 18th.
Duce who became one of our Game Masters as Baphomet was always a straight shooter and was always blunt and clear about his opinions.  He did not shy from a fight, (that delivery driver had it coming) and as a team member always looked out for our best interest as players of Wurm.
I looked forward to our chats as he was someone I was able to talk shop with whether it was computers, hardware, engines, and more.  He always surprised me with his knowledge in many fields and even helped me diagnose many problems with projects I have been working on.
We had been expecting his return all this time, but after many of his friends and myself grew more than concerned about his lengthy absence beyond the few days he informed us that he would be away, we did some sleuthing and came across his obituary.  Even after I last spoke with him on July 13th, I had been working on several projects that I had been eager to show and discuss with him, and I had been eager to see what he decided to do to get his hearse going again among other things he had planned.
He will be missed by a lot of us, including myself, as he has been a big influence on us for many years.  He has lived more in his life than most of us and he definitely has much to be proud of.
Donations may be made in his memory to the Whisker Rescue Society of Alberta, PO Box 27138, Red Deer, AB, T4N 6X8
Duce is one of the people my respect for had never waned in the slightest, i'm not sure there is really anyone else in wurm that was that high up on my "holy ###### this guy is cool" list. Always such a helpful guy, and I don't think i'll ever forget the 20 minute long stories about Fernando and his chocolate dicks as he always told that story, and others in such a way that it was just as good if not better for the ones i was able to experience, and he helped shape experiences i was not a part of with those stories too.
He'll be missed, and i'll certainly miss my chats with him too. Beyond that i'm still stunned, i was hoping to have the chance to play with him again. something i had always looked forward to...
He was a dam good friend and a terrific mentor, my quotes folder will no longer grow larger with his crazy(and usually inappropriate) lines... The two that describe him the most are:
[22:17:54] <@Duce> you ever try and get away from casino security after a fifth of Jack with a 6 foot tall plastic lobster?
and
[13:19:43] <Duce> matters little to me.  I just get loaded and put my kilt on at 4 AM and play my bagpipes
A bottle of Jack, to Duce.
Duce was a wonderful man.  I met him when I joined the wurm team, and even after I joined MR and became his 'enemy' in game, I've always had the utmost respect for him.  He never failed to make me smile in chat, and always showed respect toward me, to the extent of calling me Ma'am in our almost daily "Good Morning" ritual.  He was and is still a role model to me in my dealings with players that put in support tickets asking for help.  Duce, you will be missed.
He was always my enemy in game and that never did a thing to change that he was clearly a great guy and well respected by all that knew him. We're talking about the kind of guy that people used as a benchmark for how to be a decent wurm player. Truly sad to hear this news.
I literally have no words to express how great this man was and how much fun he made Wurm for me.
I am going to miss you, Duce.
I'm going to deeply miss his unvarnished view of the world, and those that dwell in it. There are very few people in this game that I've liked, and even fewer that I respected or admired. Nothing fills the void of his absence. Goodbye, my friend.
I didn't had the honor and pleasure to know Duce but from everyone posting here and the stories and things I have heard I know that he will definitely be missed. My thoughts will be going out to his family and friends in their time of loss.
R.I.P Duce and thank you gracing the world with your presence.
Duce was one of the people I always remember when I first came to Wild years back. He would sit away, blacksmithing away and casting on items for people who needed them as he was a Vyn champ back then too. He was always about helping people, either as a player or a GM. Will miss his many crazy stories he used to tell us all in kingdom chat all the time. Really sad that he won't be logging in again.
Rest in peace Duce.
Duce, you will be missed. I've learned a lot from Duce since I've been around him during my impressionable years. His directness, his amazing story telling (Story time with Duce), and his generosity (rough around the edges with a heart of absolute gold) will forever be qualities I will remember and keep with me.
R.I.P. the only man who is truly boss enough to drive around in a hearse. We will miss you.
  I can only describe Duce as the father to all of JK.  If the buck had to stop somewhere it would be right there at his desk.  While Kings have come and gone in JK, Duce was always there.  Making sure people were geared, enchanted, and content.  If there's one word I would describe Duce it's selfless.  A man who truly embodied greatness in every aspect of his morals.  I'll never forget him, nor what he did for my friends and I.
  He was a care taker and while he showed his rough candor often.  We all knew that while he was a strong individual, his kindness was the strongest of all.  A man so caring and full of life that he would take care of any and everyone.  He would move heaven and earth to make sure people were going to be happy.  That's what I loved most about him, which is also what I will miss most about him.
  May he finally find rest and be at peace.
Sad news.
first came in contact with Duce back on JK home, 9 years ago when i was getting killed by a huge spider. Back then Duce was a vynora priest training up to become a champion on Wild (chaos), he gave me my first enchanted weapon, a 50 flaming aura shortsword. Back then we were good friends. used to chat daily and do trades.
When i later on joined Mol Rehan we rarely spoke anymore, mostly because you could not PM an enemy player back then. so we lost contact and became enemies instead.
Rest in peace Duce.
While we were never friends and more often than not further in the opposite direction, I think we both had a mutual respect that our hearts were in the right place. The community has lost someone very special to them and it will be felt for a long time to come, it is a very sad day.
RIP Duce, your falling apart has ended and now you can rest.
Man this is so sad. That guy always helped everyone out. How can this happen. I always wanted to send him gifts as an apology for all the shiiit I have done. Why didn't I do it sooner. This is very very sad :(
A great wurmian, will always be missed. Always cared about his kingdom on chaos, and wurm as a whole. I honestly do not think JK would last long enough if it wasn't for Duce.
Even though we were never on the same side on chaos, I still longed to see that guy on the battlefield. I know he spent most of his time helping the other players of kingdom by gearing them up and making unlimited coordage ropes. Seriously, so sad I never got to see that person in pvp in my time.
Always talk to people you like and miss, eventually there will be a day when you won't be able to talk to them anymore. I am sorry Duce for being so annoying, but you are amazing. When my brother joined JK in pastwe both were amazed how you were always helpful and protective of the new players like him. Gonna miss this Legend.
I remember the time when I was alone in HOTS living at the shroud. I had no one to talk to, and at that time I talked with Duce. For some reason I knew that he was the only guy who would care. He cared for everyone! He told me stories and taught me so many things like how to ride a dragon. Man WTF, gonna miss you a lot man. You are the definition of Legendary.
It brought chills and sadness when we became to notice that this suspicion was becoming more and more of a reality. Duce like mentioned before certainly was like a father figure in JK. There's wasn't a subject that I talked to him about that he didn't know or wasnt able to provide guidance on. A man who went thru many many hardships in his last years but despite everything always seemed to have a positive twist to it. He will certainly be missed, one of my favorite parts of being in JK was story time with Duce. He never failed to amuse me or anyone. A genuine good hearted man, who will surely be deeply missed.
This is so sad to hear and it comes as a total surprise. I thought you had a long way left. You fought until the end for what you believed in both here and in real life, refused certain treatment and decided to go in the way you preferred. All respect, Duce!
