Posted February 10, 2016 While I wish them good luck, I doubt it will be used a lot. AAA studios already use their own engines or UE and have massive codebases of engine-specific code, while indies most often use Unity which is very easy to use and allows other languages than C++ (which is very unfriendly for tiny/small teams). Posted February 10, 2016 Unity also allows you to host your server in other places than AWS, while this does not All in all it just takes CryEngine and makes it free (instead of the original 9.99/mo), but adds vendor lockin. Personally I'd just go and buy CryEngine instead.
Posted February 10, 2016 Nothing wrong with C++ even in small teams, it largely depends on the programmers then the language. I seen just as much sloppy coding with C++ as I do with Java, and both have easy accessible Compilers.
