Horse chain barding (Silver and Steel vs. Iron) [Done]

Recommended Posts

Please update Horse chain barding to indicate that both

Silver Chain barding, and the Steel Chain barding, are currently visually bugged.

When a horse is equipped with chain barding, of either Silver or Steel.  The armor does not currently appear on the horse.

But the horse is slowed down while wearing either.

Testing:

I tested 3 sets, Iron, Silver, and Steel.

All three sets slow down the horse while equipped on the horse, vs. having none equipped on the horse.

The Iron set shows visually on the horse as equipped.

The Silver set and the Steel set, appear to be equipped but visually invisible.

I assume the visually invisible sets still protect the horse, however I don't' want to assume and will test this out later on to confirm.  At that time, I will also include screen shots.

I updated the information on http://www.wurmpedia.com/index.php/Chain_barding - Silver and steel were not even mentioned, so I assume they are new options that the developers have yet to implement models for.

Thank you for the information! If you do further testing on how well they protect, we can add that information as well. I also don't see any information at all about the different metal types and their protection.

Keenan,

Good point.  Thank you for updating the page.

The metal types may have different levels of protection.  On the idea of a softer metal vs. a more resistant metal.

I'm working on finding out the results.

Oh another note.

You cannot equip a hot armor on a horse, as it must be cooled first.

Text received when you try to equip hot armor on a horse:  (Thanks to Strandedspaceman for catching this)

The Venerable fat Dogswift rears as the chain barding is too warm.

Thanks again Dasfry! I updated the page with that information. I would also be curious to know if there's a speed difference between metal types used - but with how random horse traits can be, that might be hard to sort out.

Here is what I found.

Horse Barding comparasion

Horsebarding%20Comparison%204.png

The "No Barding" I stopped because it was clear, I was going to kill the horse.

After 7 shots (and lots of healing/bandages)

The horse with Iron Barding took a total of 139.91 damage for an average of 27.98 damage per shot.

The horse with Silver Barding took a total of 140.67 damage for an average of 28.13 damage per shot.

The horse with Steel Barding took a total of 139.08 damage for an average of 27.82 damage per shot.

The damage is soo close together on average... I would dare say the level of protection each metal gives is the same.

However What I dont' know is if the QL of barding matters.

But it's confirmed.

Iron, Steel, and Silver Barding does work and is active armor for the horse.

Even if you can't see it, it still protects the horse.

Almost forgot to mention, The different metals do take different amounts of wear.

Steel appears more durable then silver, and silver more so than iron.  (which doesn't seem right)

But I wasn't paying attention to wear very much in depth and more testing is required.

That is clear enough to say that the metal types all provide the same level of protection. And that also means that they use the same properties of metal as most other items, judging by your tests. If I recall, steel plate doesn't provide more protection than iron, but it takes less damage when hit.

Updated the page again. I can't verify protection offered by moon metal yet, but from what you've tested, I'd have to assume it won't matter.

Thanks for all the info!

After the testing I'm left with a few questions.

Will the Dev team make the armor visible in the future?

Will they all look identical to iron barding, or different?

How do the different metals compare in terms of wear and tear?

Since I only tested the piercing damage type:

Do the different metals react the same across all damage types?  or are they different vs. Slash, Blunt, Acid, Cold, Heat, and Piercing?

Since the tests I did where based on similar QL of armor:

Does having a higher QL chain barding effect incoming damage?  or is QL 1 the same as QL 99, in terms of incoming damage?

I'm not expecting any answers, just wanted to share my thoughts after testing.
