[Chaos guides] Stealth

Recommended Posts

Disclaimer: This is part of a series of guides I'm doing to introduce Chaos to newer players and to people from freedom who wanna venture in the wild lands of Chaos either alone or as part of a kingdom.

Stealth

What is stealth ?

Stealth is a feature that allows you to hide your visual presense and your presense in local tab from other people.

Why people use stealth ?

Stealth can have many usages. You can stealth to hide from enemies for safety. You can also use stealth to prepare an ambush for an enemy. One more reason to stealth is to spy on enemy activity without them noticing you. More advanced stealth tactics include stealthing part of your army in order to confuse the enemy regarding the attacking or defensive power you have on your disposal and use that element of surprise for your advantage.

How does stealth work ?

Stealth is activated and deactivated through the button on your Quickbar. Once you press the stealth button you have a chance to succeed. When you succeed, you will get a Stealthmode text string in your event window and vanish from local tabs and from visibility.

What are the rules governing stealth ?

Part of them are taken from wurmpedia and part of them have been tested ingame. Here's the list:

  • Body Control gives a better success at stealthing.
  • You must be at least one tile away from another creature to try to stealth.
  • It appears to be easier to stealth on tree tiles, and harder on road tiles. It is much easier to stealth in a cave.
  • You move slower  when in stealth.
  • It appears to be easier to stealth at nighttime.
  • Moving on or across roads has a great chance to unstealth you.
  • Talking in local, or using emotes in local will unstealth you.
  • Using certain abilties like Refresh will unstealth you.
  • Using actions will unstealth you.

Can I move while stealthed ?

When moving while stealthed on unpaved road there's still a chance to unstealth which is about 10% per tile crossing. This type of unstealthing happens for indivual players that are in local with you. For example if you move around a local area that has PlayerA and PlayerB, you might get unstealthed for PlayerA but not for PlayerB. You will still maintain the Stealthmode status string but you'll be visible to some enemies or allies. There's now way to know who can see you and who not other than asking them. This helps prevent people stealthing up on distance outside your local and sneaking up on you for the kill.

Can stealth be detected by Locate Soul ?

Yes, a stealthed player will be visible in Locate Soul spells. The rules governing locate soul will be the same as those that apply on an unstealthed player.

Can stealth be detected by Lurker in the Dark ?

Yes, a stealthed player will be visible in Lurker in the Dark spells. The rules governing Lurker in the Dark  will be the same as those that apply on an unstealthed player.

Can i pass gates while stealthed ?

Yes. Going through a gate on unpaved terrain will not unstealth you. The gate open and close animation will play though which can give our your location even if you are invisible.

Can other players unstealth me ?

Yes. If a player knows the tile you're stealthed on and steps on this tile, he will unstealth you completelly. Players moving around you in any other tile except the tile you're standing on will not unstealth you. Generally interactions with other players will unstealth you.

Can I stealth on water ?

Yes. Even if it's a bit more difficult there's absolutelly nothing stopping you from stealthing in water.

What happens if I logout stealthed and login back ?

When you logout stealthed and you login again, you won't be visible on chatting tab player lists ( eg alliance ) but you won't be also able view the other names on that list.
