Lanterns not turning off and taking constant decay in inventory

Recommended Posts

Lanterns continue to say they are "lit" in inventory, despite being turned off.  The lanterns also take constant decay in inventory.  One of my friends wondered if this may be related, the lanterns "think" they are still lit thus take decay in inventory despite being snuffed.  Whatever the reason, there are two bugs here, one is they show "lit" when snuffed, and the second is they take damage in inventory.  Please look into these. Thanks.

Unfortunately Lanterns have always decayed while in inventory and eventually their quality will be reduced dramatically because of this. The fact that some will stay "Lit" seems unrelated to this decay and that is just some odd bug, I would agree.

I remember about a year ago some Dev mentioned that they were reducing Lantern decay in inventory and it did seem to be less for a while but currently it seems to have gone back to the heavy decay of yesteryear. Yet, I would wish they would remove Lantern decay in inventory completely since it is at odds with almost all other items that will not decay in inventory.

+1 to making lanterns last longer without decay.  I'll also say that I'd love if lanterns would auto refill from the tar in my inventory.  Not a big deal, but convenient, like having templars fill perim lamps.

It does seem to be related. My mag drops light tokens everywhere and rarely if ever lights the lantern. Hers will go weeks and weeks with tiny decay ticks. My main will use hers constantly and once lit, it stays lit even when out of fuel and the decay on hers is magnitudes higher.

Aye, if this could be looked at, it would be great. My lanterns take a huge amount of damage, and it even seems that the higher the ql they are the more damage they take.

If the decay could be removed (preferred) or just heavily downtoned by a few factors, that would help things tremendously.

Agree, lanterns take far too much decay i.m.o., lit or unlit (Don't really see any difference there myself). I think the fact it keeps saying it is lit while it isn't, has to do with some occurence in the past which 'froze' the wording at that time and once frozen it never changes again (don't really remember what happened exactly at that point - however something in the past, and once stuck with that wording then it got stuck for forever, never got fixed - just wording though afaik).

I thought it got stuck with the word lit because I imped them while full of fuel. Thought that might have something to do with it.

i crafted one that stayed, hot, not cooled down, like how a lit lantern turns hot after a while like its in a forge. and it layed on the ground forever. and stayed hot long time later. but not a lantern, an iron torch

bump to fix the decay and other bugs on lanterns.

In RL, I have used both lanterns and picks.  Picks wear out fast and lanterns last a very long time.  Would be great to fix this and not have ti imp my lanterns every few days.

Having "lit" status on lanterns even if turned off. Looks like it accrues damage in this status.  Have tried to light, unlight, place in cold forge.  I have a few demon lanterns.  I'm echoing other posts yet thought adding a line help see numbers affected.

Careful of any lanterns left on alts that you don't log in often.

Had several 90ql rare lanterns that had over 10 damage on alts that hadn't logged in for a bit.

I'm not a proficient coder by any means, but I don't understand why lantern damage is still an issue. (I recall it was an issue back in 2009)

To be clear, "I'm not complaining". I'm just trying to put this into perspective.

If its difficult to code "only take damage when lit and the player is logged in", then wouldn't it be better to just stop damage on them entirely when in inventory?

I can't think of any issues it would cause, or economies it would affect.

I just had a 30ql lantern on an alt take over 7 damage just from being in inventory under a month! Something REALLY needs to be done about this.

Either disable decay on lanterns in inventory entirely, or ratchet it back to what every other tool is, please and thank you! :)

This is still a problem.  My lantern decaying to crap is all part of the Wurm experience, but I wouldn't complain if that was fixed!

Lanterns (and lamps, I think) get the "lit" status when placed and heated in a fire while having fuel in them. They keep the "lit" status when taken and cooled off.

If you heat an empty lantern, it will not have the "lit" status after (or while still hot, in a fire of some sort), only happens if they're fueled prior to heating.

will a lantern fit in an SMC I wonder?  If so, I'm going to eat up a few meals to make room, until they make these less buggy.

This has always happened and it has always been annoying. It has been this way for so long that it causes me to question my sanity. Maybe it's supposed to be that way? It's been that way forever. It must be intentional! Beginning every new session with a minor annoyance is just part of Wurm Online!

The issue with the (lit) status on some lanterns never being removed has been fixed with the permissions update.

If you have a lantern that still says (lit) even after being snuffed, you can remove that status by either crossing server borders or sending that lantern in the mail to another server.  (NOTE:  Just the lantern needs to cross servers, not you - so you can give it to an alt or trade it with someone going on a trip).
