Personally while the current timespan allows for a quick, bloody mashup, it doesnt really seem to allow for the building of fortifications where one would expect to see the new siege machinery play a major role.


 


Sure theres plenty of pvp; however, its more in the way of groups colliding out in the "open".


 


Granted its a holiday season. Not to mention players still figuring out wth the new siege machinery even does, let alone find any tweaks that may be required.


 


Personally Im for 3 months. A nice prime number that seems long enough while not too long.


 


On the otherhand the skillgain rate is pretty high. Theres already champs running around and dying. Artifacts in play. Also some 90 skillers running around. Ive honestly been surprised the uniques have lasted this long.

It does not matter much anyway once the players that are going to keep playing get formed up and organised there will not be much hope for anyone new anyway.  They will kick out any players that are "bad" and any "good" members of that server will want to join with the winning side then it is just down to who can play the most as far as points go.  They will just get better and better at learning how to start each round/challenge and nothing will matter eventually. (thats the way i see it anyway)

And two months from now there will be another poll pushing for more time, and then another, and another....And it'll be just like Epic. Setting the precedent of allowing the scenario to run longer means every scenario will be pushed for more length. Better to set the endgame conditions upfront and stick to them.


 


Rolf said later rounds will be longer. Let them have this one as a learning experience.

Later ones could be longer, but resetting this one in a month is really the right choice, as its kinda more of a test of the mechanics and to iron out bugs than a round of the challenge gamemode.

Make 8hr mini games.  Short enough that nobody dies RL from playing to exhaustion, then each restart is 8hrs later on the clock, so that you rotate timezone advantages.  This way, anyone that wants to give it a go, can put their all into those 8 hours of madness and then not lose sleep over their main alts and deeds on other servers.


 


What I have seen so far is players saying they want to leave their main server for good and just do Challenge, or the opposite - wanting drop challenge and go back to keep up their properties and alts on main servers.

A longer time frame would allow for more substantial fortifications; as a result, more deployment in the new siege machines. In turn this would reveal more bugs and whatever strength tweaks are needed.


 


Granted some weakness have already come up. Magic turrets do not seem to deal much damage, and ballista seem to be under-powered. Personally have only seen acid type turrets trying to shoot through 70ql chain armor, leaving very light bruise wounds. The rest is the usual word of mouth.


 


EDIT: As far as people jumping into the Challenge at a later date, Rolf said their base skills should be higher to reflect this; though, I haven't created any such chars myself.

Hmm it would seem some concerns, about too many people asking for the map to be permanent, are unfounded.  :lol:
