"New Player Friendly" Area in Progress - NE of Green Dog

Recommended Posts

Hails!

I am Warmark (the new Main for my old toon Warhaft - thus the name in forum) and I now live along an Un-Named Lake just East of Rainbow Lake.  (at least I have not seen it named anywhere)  -- I am not able to pull up the map here at work so I do not have the exact coords from the Community Map... sorry.  :-(

Public Announcement

I wanted to let everyone know that there is a "New Player Friendly" area Northeast of Green Dog. It is Near the Un-Named Lake just East of Rainbow Lake and only a short run North along the main Highway from Green Dog. (looks kinda like a kidney?)  :-)

Amenities include

Guard Towers (several) Nearby (very easy run if you get jumped in the area)

Inn - rent a bed for 10 iron (gain Sleep Bonus when logging out using a bed)

Public Crafting Stations - A Forge, Oven and Loom are available right outside the Inn (on my Perimeter)

Deed Token Available to Sell To - My deed token is along the road so anyone may sell to it for Iron coins

Fishing Nearby - My deed is along the shore of the "Un-named" Lake -- Good Fishing  :-)

Timber Nearby -- Open Timber Lands nearby for woodcutting -- Plz try to cut away from road to keep area nice :-)

Public Mine - A public Iron Mine (with Forge) is right up the road -- within easy run to a guard tower(s)

Open Spaces - Open Spaces nearby to put a Tent as you level skills and venture out to find a deed loc.

Short Run to Rainbow Lake (town) -- Just a short run down the main highway to Rainbow Lake Vendors

I think that is about it...  I will be posting signs along the roadway(s) near Green Dog so that new players have a place to start out if they so choose.

Thanks for the time you spent reading this post... If anyone know of new players looking for a "relatively safe" area to begin grinding up skills you may steer them to the Inn.

Sincerely,

Warmark (formerly Warhaft)

I like to see some fresh blood in the area, and you picked yourself a pretty good spot.  Hopefully some new players take you up on your offer since most of the rest of us seem to be ignoring their pleas for help.  If you need anything to help get the deed going feel free to ask, I'm just north of the bridge.

Thanks for the offer... I will certainly bear it in mind and appreciate it.

Here are the coordinates on the Deli - Community Map ---   x17, y23

I really do not know how many new players choose Deli as a home server... and of those that do, I don't know how many would even be interested in starting out in a place like this...  but I figured I could have used a "safer" area to begin my adventure in Wurm.  :-).

WIth the new mechanics of being able to "Sell" junk items and resources to Tokens I think it is possible to use this area to build up some basic skills while making a small amount of coins to get started.  The INN will allow for gaining Sleep Bonus even before building a house and bed.  I will also provide unlocked gated area to run to if being chased and the guard tower is very close by.   There is a lake (water supply & fishing), mine(s), trees, tar (for lamps & torches), clay (a short run around the lake) as well as the Inn and a guard tower.  I have a Loom, Oven and Forge on my perimeter so that  they can be used free of any Deed restrictions.

I am also making a Viewing Tower (Warmark's Needle) right next to the Inn that will be a place for people to climb up and look over the area from a tower-like vantage point.  I will add new floors as my Carp skill allows.  :-)

I will also (just thought of this) place a Training Dummy or two out front of the Inn with perhaps a rack of low QL shafts to work up Fight Skill.  I will place some (hard to pickup) containers -- Large crates or Large barrels to give a place to drop stuff... but will have to make sure it is some type that cannot be locked by others.

Anyway, I am just slowly working on improving the amenities and such.  It is a work-in-progress!

Thanks again!

Small Update ---  as of Sept. 08, 2014

The Inn is complete...  only 3 beds currently to rent but that should be enough for now.  :-)

There is a Public Forge, Oven and Loom right across the road from the INN (they are on my perimeter so no drop/pickup/use restrictions)

There is now a Public Iron Mine (with a Forge and water available inside) just up the road and within easy earshot of my Guard Tower!

Great Fishing!  --- Don't forget about the lake that is mere Tiles away from the INN

Lots of open grasslands to forage and botanize ---  you can forage for veggies for cooking!  :-)

---  Remember to cook Meals in a Frying Pan for good early nutrition! -- one Veggie (Pumpkin, potato, corn) and One meat (FISH!)

Small fenced "corral" area to run into for safety if the guards are not within earshot -- it is unlocked so public is welcome!

Viewing Tower that is Open to Public -- only 4 stories so far until my Carp skill gets higher.  Gives great view of the area!

The Token for my village is open to public for selling of foraged/bonanized/crafted goods! -- you get 1 Iron Coin per QL of item!!!

Altar of Magranon available for prayers and sacrifice -- accross from my Token

Trash Heap is available near my Token --- may add another next to INN for more convenience!  :-)

I will be adding more as I think of them --- Perhaps an Archery Target and Training Dummies will be placed soon as well as some storage that is unlockable so nobody can block others from using.... more of a community storage -- wood scraps, extra logs, etc!

I hope it is a place where new players can feel safe and comfortable as they learn the ins-and-outs of the game.  :-)

Thanks to all my neighbors who have helped with encouraging words and even some donated items! Any help is appreciated

It's a work in progress!

Peace!

define "new player friendly"

Wizlawz, I think this place would be great for you. Seriously. Warhaft has created a place specifically to help newer players ease into the game (Thank you Warhaft) I think you would benefit from a nice place close to helpful players to guide you through your early days.

Warhaft, well done on creating this, people like me don't particularly enjoy new players on our deed, mainly because I don't trust anyone and also I have crazy OCD so thank you for your time and effort.

I have to build a new Public Forge...   :-(

I noticed the other day someone must have loaded the one I had out along my Perimeter across the road from the INN.  I am not sure if I place the forge, oven and loom on my deed (right next to the INN) can others still use it?

I will plan on building the new forge tonight or tomorrow (Wednesday)... There is a Public Forge in the Public Mine just to the West of my Inn however, so new players can mine the ore and use the forge in there for now.

Thanks LennyHarvey85  ---  feel free to upgrade as much as you can... you may not wanna go too high tho as it appears someone may load it up and cart it off.  If I can plant the crafting stations actually on my deed and still allow people to use them then I will do so.

Peace!

Yes, if you place those items on your deed tiles no one can then load them up and rip them off for the generous use you provide to other players, as long as you have the *load* option off on deed. Anyone can then use these items and they will be secure. Players can even use them if they are inside your public Inn as well.

If you place them outside on deed next to the perimeter you could then place a bulk bin on the perimeter and fill with woodscraps so that anyone can then take some out to fuel the forge and oven. I find it best to put a few 1,000 woodscraps inside the bin to discourage most from dumping them all on the ground to then take the bin for their own use, since "planting" the bin is not effective as after a time this binding effect is removed.

Also yes, a good idea to never imp these items too high if off deed since that makes them attractive enough to entice the opportunists to load them up for their own use elsewhere. Even with these types of items one must plan carefully to reduce the disappearing magical effects employed by those of little concern for the welfare of others but themselves.

Safe Travels

=Ayes=

Update: Planted bins always remain firmly secured to the ground now, finally! Also, you will see who planted them by using *examine* on them, if that is of any interest.

if you feel up to it you might try making a small building on deed and then you can manage the settings on it giving more freedom with more protection.

Hi

I know I'm posting this a long time after it has been created, but I was wondering if this is still in operation? If so is it named Warmark's Ward?

I'm a returning player to wurm, on previous attempts at this game I have ran off to try (usually unsuccessfully) and find a quiet untouched piece of land to call my own.

This time though I want to stick to free play for awhile and stay in the comfort of built up areas maybe join a village, learn to play and advance properly. Then and only then maybe go out to start my own area?

I started yesterday and am just hanging around Green Dog, learning the basics and getting the free food.

Any news on this or other New player friendly areas would be appreciated.

By the way I'm from the U.K (that might make a difference as being on a similar time zone is handy).

Thanks

Torakian,

There is a "Public Safe House" just a bit outside the east gate of Green Dog that has a bin outside with some fuel and odds and ends for new players to use. With a Public mine just further south along the lake/mountain that has iron within it, you would be able to mine some and create a large cart from all those items. If you then create a large padlock and lock the cart then you will have a secure mobile storage unit that you can drag around and no other will be able to drag from the spot where you leave it because of the new permissions settings, which you can set by clicking on the cart, although they will already be set for no one else to use it.

Also, at the top of this section there is a "Recruitment" section you can read that will give some idea of those offering their Village for others to join. Another thing to try is to click the "Freedom" chat tab which covers the whole server and just type in there what you are looking for. There are even small patches of free land (use examine on the ground to check if no Village/perimeter name on it) right around this deed where you can build your own small house and fenced area to settle on for a time. Even large open areas to place a deed on a bit further north/south/east.

Happy Trails

Hi Ayes

Thanks for the info, I have already found the areas you mentioned and are using them so that I can get my basics done before I head out (fishing rod, cotton, basic fighting skill etc). I didn't know about the cart option though, so thank you very much for that. :-)

I have checked the forum's out regarding village recruitment but there a bit out of date or low on info so I think i'll use chat in the Freedom chat tab option as I would ideally like to find people that would be on at the same time.

Thanks again for the advice.

Large and small carts currently are created locked.

A small cart will slow you down less and is easier to make. It doesn't hold as much volume. But it's probably enough for a starting player.

Have fun!

Large and small carts currently are created locked.

So you are meaning that it is not necessary to create locks for these carts now when created and yet they can still be managed? Great news if so and I will want to make new players aware of this in the future for accurate advice.

If this is the case then really only locks need to be made by the owner of older carts that might not have any locks on them, which all my old small carts don't have.

I have made a row boat, small cart and large cart since the permission update. They where all created with a low ql lock already attached. No key, management working.

Keep up the great work at helping the community we need more people like you in the game, but for a small game like Wurm there are a lot of great and helpful players that drive the community we live in!

Once again keep it up!

This deed disbanded a while back. With the last of the buildings gone, I've re-deeded the area as New Stonehaven and I'll try and throw up a couple of buildings over the next few weeks with new players in mind.

It won't be as big as Warmark's deed, and there won't be a live-in mayor, but hopefully it will serve a purpose. If you're passing Green Dog, stop in and say hi :)
