  1. I forgot to add that I had also deleted every file I could think of when trying to configure. Posting an update incase it can help someone else! Tried one other thing I could think of and I made some progress.....trying again.....fingers crossed! I went further into some of my files and in a roaming folder, (subfolders in my local) I found a file from 2015 that I deleted. Then I uninstalled wurm and java again. Did a system restart and then reinstalled wurm and java and it launched and is doing all updates.
  2. I've been playing wurm off and on for 10 years. I recently started playing again a few months ago and have had no issues. I was playing fine last night......today I try to launch Wurm and it crashes before the play screen. I have tried to uninstall and reinstall Wurm, uninstall and reinstall Java, updated the launcher and Java, uninstalled todays Java update, the stable clinet download info is no longer available and I've spent the last few hours trying to fix it with no luck. I don't know what is happening or how to fix it. I also uninstalled and reinstalled my latest windows update just incase too. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm not extremely tech savvy so I'm hoping someone can help. I did the steps that I know of to do but I don't know what more to do. Thanks guys, Perce

  6. WOOT WOOT!!! I must have edited the host file at some point and was able to delete that section and am back to downloading..... Much thanks Alectrys, you rock
  7. This is a copy of the host file that went to my desktop, if this helps..... # Copyright © 1993-2009 Microsoft Corp. # # This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows. # # This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each # entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should # be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name. # The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one # space. # # Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual # lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol. # # For example: # # 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server # 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host # localhost name resolution is handled within DNS itself. # 127.0.0.1 localhost # ::1 localhost 185.59.221.13 updates.wurmonline.com Is the very last line what needs deleted or edited?
  8. Thanks Alectrys! I don't remember ever editing any files, only deselecting the boxes for pack updates, but it was a long time ago. If I did edit them back then, where would I find said file to remove the edit? If I go to javaws, etc I can view the info but no options to change anything...... HOWEVER, this laptop has Windows 8, has never had anything but Windows 8..... Did a program compatibility troubleshoot and my javaws says I was running Windows 7 somehow. Anyhow, I redid that to run windows 8 correctly but still no connection. It just sits at 0% for download. I've tried using a proxy (tunnelbear) which is the only way I could connect before we moved but still can't seem to figure this out.
  9. Trying to update and log in, already did a Java update but still can't connect. This is the error code from the pack updates error page..... I haven't logged in in a while and although I remember something similar to this happening in the past, I can't remember how I fixed it exactly so any help is appreciated Contents of temporary launch log: Time is Sun Oct 25 13:07:09 EDT 2015 Running client version 3.99d === System information === Executing from C:\Users\USERNAME\Desktop\ Operating system: Windows 8.1 (arch: amd64, version: 6.3) Java version: 1.8.0_65 (Oracle Corporation) <http://java.oracle.com/> Jvm version: 25.65-b01 (Oracle Corporation) [Java HotSpot 64-Bit Server VM] Available CPUs: 4 Oct 25, 2015 1:07:09 PM java.util.prefs.WindowsPreferences <init> WARNING: Could not open/create prefs root node Software\JavaSoft\Prefs at root 0x80000002. 10. A player asked if tower guards will attack KOS players and as far as I know, there needs to be a templar for KOS to be in effect. Though, using the in game wiki and wurmpedia, there is a variation to this that I figured I'd post..... whether the distinction is from PVP to PVE or just a mismatch of info on deed vs perimeter, templar vs tower guard, etc, it comes across as though there is more than 1 set of rules for how the templars & guards work for KOS. If the templars aren't needed for KOS, I think folks would be quite peeved to have spent money on a templar for no reason other than them having higher fight skill (my opinion) If typing TOWER GUARD wiki and wurmpedia states *Towers placed inside deed borders will cooperate with deed guards in dealing with lawbreakers. *Guards automatically attack nearby KoS and hostile players. Such player needs to be maximum few tiles away from the guard, distance to tower doesn't seem to matter. Guards are very fast and relentless, they may chase you hundreds of tiles away and will continue even if you leave KoS deed area. *****cooperates with but does a templar NEED to be there for them to attack KOS? seems like they will attack KOS players without templar present If typing GUARD TOWER wiki and wurmpedia states They will also attack KoSed players, if player enters a deed that is protected by a spirit templar (this works on PVP and PVE servers). *****seems to state that the tower guards will ONLY attack KOS players if templar is present This is a copy / paste of what another player posted as well ( I wasn't able to find this info myself so I'm not sure exactly where it was copied it from ) [21:34:14] <Jpopper> wiki: Tower Guards will also attack KoS'ed players once they enter the perimeter, if their tower is nearby - the KoS'd player only needs to enter the perimeter to trigger this attack after the initial Using wiki & wurmpedia for 'spirit templar' there isn't mention of whether or not they must be present. It says they will attack unlawful people / low rep, etc but isn't specific if they are in fact required for tower guards to implement KOS as well. I'd like to understand it so I can better help others when they ask and to be honest, I've paid for a templar for months even with a tower on deed as wiki implies they are needed for tower guards to attack. I wanted to test it with an alt but don't want to dismiss / rehire templars on deed. Can someone shed some light on it?
