  1. [16:27:10] You entered through the portal to Wurm on Luck day, week 2 of the starfall of Dancers, 1034. That's 735 days, 19 hours and 47 minutes ago. Currently on Release. I haven't played this character since Dec 2013. I have had other characters but I either gave them away or forgot the info to recover the accounts. By the grace of God I was able to recover this one. I'm a pretty busy guy in real life. Expect to only see me on weekends, maybe week days, but only for an hour or two. If you have any questions, feel free to private message me.
  2. I want to pay you a substantial sum of silver to disband your deed and move. IGN is Romally. Feel free to pm me on the forums as-well. I always check them.
  3. Xanadu

Because not all programmers are the same. Some personally specialize in different fields of work, AI, Logic, GUI, Database, etc. Just like metalworkers specialize, structural fabrication, ornamental, GMAW, SMAW, GTAW, cast iron welding, aluminum, etc. Some are well rounded with a single specialization (Structural fabrication/welding for me). Hence why I said sending some of their asses to unemployment and hiring specialists.
  4. Xanadu

You over simplified what I said. I know damn well you work with more than one employee, employees skilled in different trades and have multiple tasks. Don't trivialize my experience and throw me in the pen with folks who haven't got a clue. That's an easy "PR" cop out reply. I don't see lead developer or director on your title, so I won't waste my time explaining in depth (Plus you aren't paying me). But to summarize for you, you shift non essential resources on to unemployment, hire resources specialized to accomplish a crucial goal (bug fixing only), accomplish your goal (3-6 months of optimizations, functionality and performance), re-shift resources again to expand.
  5. Xanadu

If I ran my business the way this company runs its business, I would be bankrupt. This business and mine are a lot alike. I run a metal fabrication shop. I am the only employee. My reputation is on the line every day for the surrounding counties. In my line of work, structural fabrication and structural welding, I have low precision jobs and high precision jobs. Low precision jobs normally have 1/8th" of tolerance in the construction, whereas the high precision usually have around 1/64th" tolerance. Lets say I have a high precision job to do for one of my customers. Let's say I have tiny imperfections in the entire design. That's fine as long as they don't add up to over 1/64th" outside of my tolerance range. But continuously ###### up over and over and over, and what you have is a shitty product and a pissed off customer, and worse, a bad reputation. Continuously creating new servers is an investment opportunity. It is banking on people's materialistic nature and a need to complete for those "special" water front deeds everyone wants.. That's cool, it's a business model and it works. Unfortunately, the business model pisses off its customers. Let's say I decided to continuously invest my profits into more areas of specialization, or even, expanded my operations, I would stretch myself thin as ######, get nothing accomplished, and in the end, lose money, be completely disorganized, piss off all my customers, and send my reputation into the shitter. The only difference between Xanadu and any of the other maps is the advertisement headliner. "Xanadu, the biggest single instance sandbox ever created or attempted in the entire mmo genre" Sounds catchy right? How could they possibly do something like this? Why would they do something like this? Potential profit. It is an investment opportunity. What they're most likely going to do is either A: share resources from all existing server resources in order to support Xanadu, possibly renting/buying more resources to accomplish this, or B: Buy dedicated resources. A: Is the most likely option. Sharing existing resources for Xanadu makes sense. They are speculating that a certain percentage of the existing population will migrate over to Xanadu, leaving the existing servers less populated and less resource intensive. B: The least likely solution, which also does not explain why a "lag" would be experienced. If they had any business sense, they wouldn't invest in new resources without having a really good idea of what a maximum load could potentially be. You would over speculate in this circumstance to give yourself headroom, unless you're just a cheap bastard, which is usually the case with most business owners. I would know, I'm one myself and so are the other business owners I deal with. Okay so why does this even matter? What is the point? Here's the point: They are making a news headline in the hopes of generating more income. Either they have debts, investment opportunities, or they want to gain liquid assets to expand operations. In the long run this is a stupid move. I wouldn't invest in new fabrication equipment or take on a contract if all of my ###### was broken or riddled with defects (bugs). Fix the damn game. End.
  6. Rite Of Springs

Cast was successful. Thank you all who attended. It's amazing what you can get accomplished with a little work and cooperation.
  7. Alright, It is clear that this isn't a popular idea. Thank you to those that tried to give valuable input. I think a couple of you did a great job focusing solely on the topic.
  8. Well, again, this is a very basic concept. I am not advocating anything I stated as set in stone. Nor are the timers I proposed mandatory. This is merely a basic mechanic concept that would need complexity added or modified by a developer. If you would, please try to keep the comments to the design, and less so on a conclusion without foundations, I would really appreciate that. Thank you.
  9. Sometimes dedicated pvpers build forts right next to the deed they want to raid.
  10. You don't have to camp it for 24 hours. Just go do something else, or attack someone else in the meantime. We definitely don't sit there for 24 hours in Eve Online waiting for that timer to go away, we go do something else and come back to kill everything. Or if we're super lazy, we send in a cloaky scouts that take shifts to watch and report intel. (For that to work in this game would require stealth to be modified, which is another subject entirely. I won't even give my thoughts on that unless this mechanic is made public.) The mechanics in Eve Online are impossible to break with just one person, unless that person has about 50-100 alts and can coordinate them all with complex commands in real time, without using a bot. It just ain't gonna happen. Even if you had a bot, it would be impossible to extrapolate a routine based on the complexity of the defense units and their targeting system. This same complexity would need to be developed by a developer, not me who is here to present a basic concept. I should have noted that they should add deed archers that perch on the wall tops, but I wanted to focus on the actual mechanics of raiding, not deed defense itself. As far as the cooldown is concerned, again, this is a basic concept. It is not my responsibility to add the complexity to it, that is a developer's job. I do not have the tools to do it myself, and without the code, or those tools to make it happen, trying to argue it past that point would be moot.
  11. Example Raid event (Very basic straight out of Eve Online) Team Red wants to raid Team Sapphire's deed. Team Sapphire is not online Team Red begins destroying walls and attacking guards. Team Red is building up a "stop" cooldown during this. Once Team Red reaches this "stop" cooldown, attacking or destruction of the deed can no longer be done for 24 hours During that 24 hours, members of Team Sapphire with the proper titles are notified via email or forums of the event. Team Sapphire now has 24 hours to repair the damage done, and assemble a counter defense. Cooldown ends Fighting continues Upkeep is either drained at the current 15% or a new adjusted % or not drained at all if an unsuccessful raid is done End of fight 24 hour cooldown before next raid can be attempted Repeat ------------------------------------------------------------ The above example is a very basic structure, it can be expanded to add complexity wherever needed, and changes could be made to it easily, as it is a basic concept. The key concepts of this design are a cooldown period, a message sent to the proper players, a resume of the raid, and hopefully, players there capable of defending the assault. It is as fair as it can get. Both sides have the opportunity to have a real fight. If after the cooldown is over, no one shows up, the aggressor get's a freebie raid.
  12. I'm not in favor or against the events. I would prefer to stay neutral giving my opinion on that design. I do however think this poll is unfair, biased, and serves no true democratic purpose. I'm not attacking your character with that statement, I am attacking the process you chose to argue your point, I want to make that clear. As for the features themselves, I believe it is better to see how the changes made will affect anyone over time, before drawing conclusions prematurely about whether or not it is a failure. Lastly, I think artificially inflating this thread's popularity with double, even triple posts multiple times shows that you are very enthusiastic about this idea. I appreciate that, but it comes off as over enthusiastic and makes me not want to take you serious. It's almost the same "over enthusiasm" you claimed the "more submissive" players did to potentially have this change. Just some observations, please don't take offense to my statements.
  13. I made a statement in another thread referencing Anarchy Online's staff presence and high informative "nooby island" as a perfect concept. AO's staff presence on their nooby island was 24/7 run by paid staff and community volunteers, mostly volunteers though.
  14. What do you think could be put in place to prevent longhouses, other than restricting size by 4x one side?
