  1. I would like to have a GM ruling -- preferably by Oracle -- on whether the lack of roof means an attached structure no longer counts towards a protected enclosure if the roof is now missing. The game forcibly removed all of our roofs and it will take some time to get them redone. In addition, there is currently a server BUG where it does not make any sense to roof off-deed buildings as the roofs cannot be repaired/improved, and any off-deed roofs added now will simply rot away again in a short time. This means that most of the work I have already done on reroofing, will probably be completely wasted as the dev team can give no general timetable when this is going to be looked into, or even whether this is considered a high priority issue. Fair enough, but I will be upset if this game update (removing current roofs) plus server bug basically makes all off-deed protected enclosures, suddenly lose their protections, and if GMs currently are making ingame rulings that houses/enclosures missing their roofs since the update, are now fair game for bashing.
  2. well I didn;t think I could do this earlier today but since then I have gotten much better so let me give a try -- First you have brothers Dwalin (big bald axes gruff) and Balin (old whitebeard kind to bilbo). Then three silly-oddball brothers Dori (chamomile tea and fruity red wine) Nori (three braids beard) and Ori (shy sweet slingshots) Gimli's dad Gloin and his brother Oin (mostly because he is the only one I otherwise can't name very easy and he is always standing next to his brother, gimli's dad who looks the most like gimli) Three more goofy brothers in Bifur (axe IN the head) Bofur (hat ON the head. and had some good moments in the film re dwarves having no real home) and Bombur (monstrously fat) Fili (cute but not as cute as brother) Kili (zomg boyband hot darkhair, plus he is an archer) Gandalf (not a dwarf of course) Bilbo (not even a beard either) and finally the leader of our company --- Thorin Oakenshield. TA DA! Now I will admit the first few times I was trying to sort them all out, consulting the dwarven beard cheat sheet on a few of the trickier ones but now I can do it on my own without any references to the chart: And yes I am a HUGE fan of the movie and I think all the professional nasty tempered movie critics who trashed this movie are all paid minions of Sauron, we hatesss them forever. I did see the standard oldfashioned 24fps version and have heard one person suggest its mostly people who saw the newfangled 48fps/3D version who hated the entire film start to finish, because of the way it "disconnected" viewers from the fantasy of the story. And oddly that theory does seem to hold up in a lot of cases where people mention which version they saw. So if you haven;t yet seen it (WHAT?!?) definitely pick the oldstyle 24 framerate version.
  3. Well, on this page he states there are currently three gaming projects in development using the engine. The "Mystery Game #3" is his own in-house project meant to showcase what the engine is capable of, and I am pretty sure it is the "Minecraft clone" he mentions here and in a few later posts. Mystery Game #2 is a small indie studio with big dreams and an implied question whether they can actually pull it off. Mystery Game #1, he says merely "You will be pleasantly surprised." Apparently not a small indie team possibly in over its head, and apparently not his own in-house project. If we are "pleasantly surprised" it suggests possibly a larger and more well known developer (as we would not be "surprised" by an unknown company or game franchise). In any case, he does have a page for more people to contact him about licensing the engine and getting a private presentation, so he seems to be feeling it's time to start working on actual projects. Preferably by people who have money. Still, could be years before we know anything more than that.
  4. ... In order, by their beards:
  5. I think a unit of clay is actually 2kg not 1kg, "minor quibble " so ten actions to get 20kg of clay.
  6. Well they used to, however for some reason these types seem to have been naturally selected out of the modern day gene pool. No idea why ...
  7. I am certainly going to be following this project myself as it develops. I know he refers to it as a Minecraft clone, but I have always had a secret yearning for a Skyrim+Wurm=Skwyrm style sandbox game ... maybe this could be it. I did find this later suggesting that "Minecraft blocky" look may not be part of the final vision: Into The Sandbox But unlike Minecraft, you can use tools to smooth out the blocks creating nice curves and slopes. The idea is to work initially in squares, then smooth it out as needed. Smoothness and slopes comes in a second phase. Otherwise it would be too difficult to place them and control the resulting shapes. I think it is the best approach possible. It combines the simplicity of square blocks with the rich appearance you can find everywhere else in this virtual world. So sloped roads and terraformed hillsides, and perhaps even round castle towers seems to be part of the plan. I have always wanted to make a cob house. (I suspect I might have a little Radagast bloodline in me somewhere...)
  8. Aetherwalker was trying for a long long time to trade his oak knarr for a cherrywood, send him a tell and see if he ever found a swap.
  9. As long as we have the issue open ... Can we also have a review of 20 planks per wood floorboard (used a s a paved tole), maybe make it 10 + 2 small nails, like the roofs and floors are? I'd love to see wooden plankways be a more practical paving feature. Can't be packed/graveled though as its the only way to build on marsh.
  10. Ok, then another Affliction player will need to help. I don't know much about how generous people are with cows there, hopefully its the type of thing players give or at least barter easily.. Might need to post in the Epic Market subforum: http://forum.wurmonline.com/index.php?/forum/78-epic-market/ I would imagine people are willing to trade for other items, especially basic construction materials which you might be able to supply without too much hassle.
  11. oh dang you know, that turkish keyboard issue causing "?" mystery bags has come up before and I always forget to ask about that. I never realized we had so many Turkish players well YAY that it is now solved!! We should remind Wox how he promised to rename the .XSI extensions to uppercase I
  12. dang, check in java from link above whether mixed code is allowed (with warning) , or if it is blocked with no warning (its the second section in this image): it should be on the last tab under ADVANCED > SECURITY > MIXED CODE, and set it to enable with warning if not already there.
  13. Noraia, it will help a lot if we know what server (and what section of that server). It may be harder right now to acquire livestock on Pristine or Release servers, but should be very easy to get a donated cow on Indy/Deli/Celeb/Exo servers.
  14. I use gravel paths a LOT so please don't remove gravel paving entirely as an option, if that was what you meant. Maybe 5 bricks instead of 15 is a compromise? Or even just require it to always be graveled first (not just packed dirt) before laying a "small" number of bricks. I agree 15 seems too much.
  15. Sorry if I missed seeing this above. Have you tried the "Verify All Packs" button on the launcher (under Graphics Update) as that solved it when I once had something similar. ** Oops rereading again I see now that you mention that already (Had a java popup first complaining about content from a mix of verifeid and unverified certificates, or something along those lines). So maybe some overly aggressive UAC setting. Also if you have the game installed to "Program Files" or some ofther "official" folder, recent windows versions sometimes seem to have some secret override, so I always install Games only to C:/Games/xxxx or some other custom folder and never to the official Program Files type folders. ** I noticed in checking my console logs, that mine always refers to the game file locations as C:\Games\wurm\configs\low\gamesettings.txt while yours refers instead to C:\Users\USERNAME\wurm\configs\default\gamesettings.txt which is probably one of those locations where Windows sticks in nose in everything and gets overly intrusive. Maybe try instead downloading and running the file from C:\Wurm\xxxx and see if it is possible for it to install files there instead? Especially if that Java popup complaining about "mixed" verified/unverified certificates is an issue for some Windows security settings. Actually that C:\Users\USERNAME\wurm\ location seems to pop up a lot in problem posts here in technical support, but its possible thats just a pure coincidence and nothing to do with more aggressive windows security in such folder locations.. For all I know, everyone in the game except me uses that location with zero problems. edit: I think there were the same popup messages I had received shortly before getting some issues with missing meshes, which might help Wurm devs find a way to reduce its occurance on their side? Also maybe some settings players can adjust on their side to allow the "mixed" code
  16. I think he said someplace (trying to find where) that video is sped up to make it easier to watch. Though even at its normal speed I think it would seem abnormally "fast". Think also it is meant more as a Minecraft/Dwarf Fortress type game (in which terraforming is also "fast") , as those are the two games specifically mentioned on his site, and I am the only one who brought up any possible similarities to Wurm. Plus I don't think there has ever been any suggestion of anything but single player style games. Although he says in that entry he has no intention of making a Minecraft clone, later on he changes his tune. At this stage there really isn't a "game" just proof of concept for an engine I guess. He has another section where he talks about using computer procedural generation for the world/terrain and even for exploration-oriented caves and buildings, but needing to have labor intensive "human developers" for things like objects/animals/storyline/drama as even in the sandbox genre those are less easily generated randomly.
  17. I could have sworn that my Fo priest couldn't pack tiles even before this change to "paving". I had to bring out an alt every time a farm tile switched to grass or steppe, to repair the farm tile for crops again. It was always very annoying since Fo's talent is supposed to be in Digging. But packing & dredging were forbidden.
  18. Interesting site: http://voxelfarm.com/vfweb/blog.html [media]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y5arfh0kJTo [media]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-aTsZGAK8Lo He is talking now about using the engine for sandbox style games, such as Minecraft or Dwarf Fortress.style games. I imagine it is years down the road to realization, but can you imagine a Dwarf Fortress/Minecraft or even a single-player Wurm style game that looked like this? He has other videos here This is not the same as that Euclideon "Unlimited Detail" controversy Notch tweeted extensively about, Miguel Cepero (author of the blog in the opening link) actually did a lot of extensive digging to join in Notch's accusations that the Euclideon team was massively and aggressively overmarketing their own abilities with it. I think Planet Explorers is somehow using the same basic voxel usage (maybe?) but the graphics look a lot simpler, and more important not procedurally generated content like Minecraft/Dwarf Fortress, which is what makes those games so popular and gives them infinite replayability. LIMIT THEORY is probably a lot closer as an example of a procedurally generated content game but its a space exploration game so harder to compare. .
  19. That's going to look lovely when the bell tower goes on Morna, that is beautiful.
  20. Please say they also fixed the bug where you cannot repair or improve floor and roof tiles...???
  21. Would also be cool if people had the option of, after January 1, either keep it as a santa hat or have a skilled tailor use scissors and cotton thread to turn it into That way people who want to have a santa cap forever could, while those who would like to get year-round use of it as an everyday item, also could. (Maybe not that exact style but keep in mind us females especially hate appearing to be bald, so something that masks that a bit if its impossible to have a hair layer also.) To me this style is "floppy" enough to not make us look bald and would be fine for both male and female characters. Maybe make the button at top white to remind us of its origins....
  22. I think it would be cool if Epic servers were like that: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JcNuz63JbKc Personally I prefer the current system for the Freedom servers as I am tired of games that focus the bulk of the game on constant combat and violence and excessive gore, but I could see the PvP servers going in that direction.
  23. Probably best also to EXAMINE the ground and make sure it is not deeded or a perimeter of a deed, as you would not be able to build a structure there anyway if it is. Sometimes people have bits of old abandoned homesteads on land they have since deeded, which might explain why an 11Q fence is still there long after the house has completely decayed.
  24. Fireflies have been around for a couple of months I think, and yes indeed they are a lovely addition
