    Milosanx on a rare trip down to water level Hey everyone! This week saw the changes to conversion come live, and the positive feedback has been noticed! We're working on a few things and will have more to share as they flesh out, but one thing is coming to the test server this weekend! but first... Patch Notes The Cowtapult! Those of you who follow us on Facebook may have already seen this, but we've been hard at work improving siege weapon mechanics, and first up is the catapult and trebuchet! Catapults and trebuchets should damage creatures, houses, fences, bridges and items that the projectile hits Clarification: It will hit ALL walls if it hits multiple. It will only hit one non wall item on the tile it lands on The new mechanics for them operate similarly to how they currently work, with focus on improving how the physics calculations are performed and remove those weird cases where they don't hit anything. We'll be setting up some testing scenarios such as house on a tall dirt wall and such over the weekend for you to check out, but we'd also like to know what scenarios you want to check out, so feel free to share ideas that you'd like us to setup for you to test. Our priority is getting all of them tested with different projectiles, distances and skill levels in PvP and PvE Scenarios both on and off deed to ensure they're balanced when they go live, so stay tuned for the test thread opening some time this weekend Variety is the spice of life Not one to rest on their laurels, the devs have been working hard on a long desired addition to the building, new house walls! This is a huge addition, with six new building types: Rendered wall Marble wall Pottery brick wall Round brick wall Sandstone brick wall Slate brick wall Pottery and sandstone Round stone and Rendered Marble and Slate That's not all though, there's new fence types to match the housing types, as well as a few additions and changes the paving! there will be a few new paving types, as well as a few changes to existing ones: Round cobble will use a new item round stone (same as round brick housing) Rough cobble will use Colossus bricks Slate slabs will be created by a chisel on combined slate shards like other slabs and some new pavement types you'll have to wait and see! The basics are up (without graphics) for internal testing, we'll have more info on the new types and a full list in next weeks news, this was far too exciting not to share though! Community Content This weeks community content is about a lost horse! Poor Rageed traveled off on his own one fateful night, and sparked fear for his safety in the heart of Ayuna, who cared for him.     Server will be centrally located in the US. Mods Spell that locates all players on map and gives there general location. Anyone stealthed will not show on the list, anyone with a nolocate spell greater than the power of the cast will not show on the list. [11:51:54] You sense the presence of Sigma in the center regions. [11:51:54] You sense the presence of Testj in the south regions. Meditation removal. Nearly every aspect of meditation has been removed only refresh on (one hour cool-down) and enchant grass (no cool-down) exist, these are available to all paths at level 1. Hell Horses move a little slower than regular horses due to there ability to move faster while in hurting, as well as there armor making them still viable but not Bugatti's. Genesis only costs 10 favor and has no cool-down. The ability to cast most important construction materials and reinforcement beams on crates and bsb's for 10 favor and 100 count. The ability to purchase most important items like scale, drake, tomes and an assortment of other items from coin and withdraw money by right clicking body (no deposit on body with this server)(will make a list later). Karma teleport removed. 512 treasure chests. Large Crates hold 307,200 items, Small 1/2 that. Glimmer and Ada transmutation rods. Many more craftable items. The ability to get -100 alignment if hate god, and 100 alignment if not by right clicking an altar. Universal sac item Religious Fragment. 2@50ql=100 favor. Craftable with a rock-shard and stone chisel, 200 per rock-shard. Timer Fix Mod Tax Config Mod (abandoned deed killer) Surface Mining Fix Mod Starter Gear Mod (start with small barrel, Stone chisel, Hammer, Spy Glass) Spell Mod, No priest restrictions but you can only cast your own gods spells. Sacrifice Mod, 50% chance to get a bone matching the rarity of a sacrificed item. Prospect Mod Pick More Sprouts (5) No Fatigue Move To Center Harvest Helper Fire Burn Time Crop Mod Creature Mod Creature Age Mod Horses get to mature really fast. Bulk Transport Mod Big Containers Mod Bounty Mod increased bounty of about 500% Better Dig Server Overview Server is designed to be as easy as possible but also as fair as possible, there are no caps on characteristics, and there really easy to gain (the lack of SoTG makes this viable). Players start with 50fs. Only 2 starter kingdoms JK and HoTS no Freedom (None). Map is 2048x2048 has a 400x400 HoTA Zone & 425x425 no build Zone exactly in the center. This server isn't designed for raiding (you still can if you wish) but rather open field pvp. 100x skill gain and 10x timers Epic 25,000 creatures 50% hostile. Creatures give birth on average in about 1 day. Planned HoTA Rewrite The Map I have probably forgotten to mention some changes so expect this thread to be updated with them.

    About the marble. First off, I'm so happy we're getting marble, it's something I've been wishing for, for a very long time. In fact I did experiments back in the day with DeedPlanner, trying to envision how that could look. I'm wondering whether it would be possible to have a seam type that is a bit more elegant and royal. The blocks above give it a bit of a "plain" look. When I did my experiments, I was using the marble bridge texture as a base which I think is very nice indeed:

    I would also like something like this: since with diagonal paving, we already have a code in place to recognize the surrounding tiles content, it would be nice to have a path that can recognize if it has "path tiles" touching it, then combining them to one consistent path or if it's touching grass etc. and if not touching any path it could be used for decoration as grassless spots I would really like some optical "break up" of tiles, that makes it less looking like tiles.

    Oh my goodness oh my goodness oh my goodness!!!! New wall, fence and paved tile types WOOOHOO!!! This is the best news in a long time! I'm so so happy about this! This would be the perfect time to make a request for one of the new tile types. Something I've always wished we had, was a pavement that was a bit more organic and natural. Something that would melt into nature a bit more, like a forest pathway. The only way to do this I guess, would be using masks. Since I guess masks are already being used for making the diagonal tiles, I'm hoping it would be technically possible? The new tile type could be called "pathway" or something like that, and an already existing tile type like the rounded cobblestone could be used as a starting point:

    Thanks for those of you who helped us find Rageed, and those who comforted Ayuna during her loss. Ayuna is a newer player and died to mobs at least twice while looking for Rageed. We offered to just give her a new horse, but she refused to let go of her white five speed. On the day we found it, she enlisted my help to defend her while we looked for it. The trip was made longer by hunting her corpse from her previous day's death. We had to enlist a priest to find her corpse, but both corpse and horse were later found after long hours and extensive fighting. I have to admit, it was quite an adventure. I never thought I would have so much fun doing PVE content, but I guess your experience is all the better when you have a goal in mind, someone to keep you company, and a horde of mobs to spice things up. Thanks for EVERYONE who helped us, including a special someone who made the whole rescue possible. You know who you are.

    This was back when gaining fight skill was super piss hard so gaining even 50 fs was a real accomplishment - Especially on the PvE servers since it was a much less skill efficient way to fight creatures than fighting other players. So when he announced that PvP players would be allowed to come over and raid us we were understandably pretty upset, especially since a decent amount of players had given up entirely on fs after the "nerf incident" when a select group of cheating players on Wild resulted in a game wide percentage of fs removed for everyone. I had 5 or something fs before the nerf so that didn't matter much for me anyway, but hearing that PvP players would be allowed onto Jenn-Kellon Home really wasn't my cup of tea. The time of the JKH PvP was honestly one of the most devastating events in the game, because we lost the sense of community that we had prior to that. Everyone fortified their deeds and as soon as someone entered local you'd start PMing everyone you knew to find out whether they belonged or if they were a spy looking for a weakness. In a way I think the paranoia from that time is what caused the awful Area of Control to come into existence, and that was some really vile garbage. In the end there weren't many incidents during JKH's time of PvP, but the fear was still there since not everyone respected that we wanted to play PvE in peace.

    Always found it odd that blue dye is so insane to get made. red - cochinaels are easy to come by and everyone skills butchering green - just mine it, easy white - just mine it, easy black - we can harvest acorns now but....blue - You have to scramble around botanising for ages, rarely getting woad, getting lots of random other junk and the chance its good QL is reaallllly slim. Couldn't we allow Woad to be put in planters and use similar code to herbs? Edit for important information - You can no longer botanise high QL woad without the skill. It is literally capped with your skill since 1.3. If you ever want to be able to make 90QL blue dye you need to find a person with 90+ botanising. Does anyone in the whole game have that!? Feb 9th Edit - Today the devs decided that Forestry, Milking and Botanising being actually slightly reasonable to grind for the first time in 10 years needed nerfing, so now it's even harder to get woad.

    Changes and additions Dye requirement for large and small crates has been reduced to 2.50kg and 1.50kg respectively. Merchants who move on due to poor business (self-dismiss) will now return their goods and coins inside a backpack through the mail system instead of returning each item individually. Cultivate option is now present on grass, steppe and mycelium tiles. You will now be able to forage and botanize on mycelium tiles. Planter racks will no longer fit in large storage units. Plants inside planter racks currently in large storage units will no longer grow. God conversion changes: HotS template kingdoms (default and PMK) can follow Libila or any player god. All others can follow anyone except Libila. As per the option for PMK libila priests in 1.3, Libila priests will be able to use the /transfer option to change to a player god deity without a faith loss until the 10th of April Epic terraforming events have been removed from the endgame of Valrei scenarios. Bug Fixes Bugfix: More text issues addressed. Bugfix: Changed a number of recipes that were using HFC instead of baking.

    I know someone that will be very happy to hear slate can be used for housing and very disappointed it's not the least bit black or dark. Compare the slate shingles on the marble house to the slate house right next to it. When it comes to fencing, I hope they add an option that is a good companion/connection to bridges. The current short stone brick wall is 25% taller (and near impossible to see over) from bridge walls.

    I just remember Rage. Rage from PvP towards PvE. About how they were using Wurm to build gardens. And wasting so much time and energy on 'silly' or 'stupid' things. Rage from PvE towards PvP. About how vindictively they were destroying people's homes and gardens. How maliciously they were rampaging and killing. Rage from PvE towards Rolf. About how he just... unleashed... this horde of 'horribleness' onto them without warning. And offered them no support or help. The whole community was in flames... It was absolutely awful. It might be the original source of the hatred between PvP and PvE. And probably the turning point in the evolution of Wurm and its community.

    I am pleased to announce that Rageed has been found safe and sound. He was lovingly lead back to the deed and is back again with its owner. On another note, we found Ayuna's corpse as well with all her belongings. We also found that the skid line from the top of the mountain she created on the way down with her face had been covered by the snows. It is, in the end, a happy ending. Thanks to those that helped!

    A couple days ago, my friend asked me if I remembered the first place we settled in. We were there for one night, but it was where I fell in love with the game. So it made me wonder how I thought about the game back when I started, and started reading chat logs I have saved from then. What silly things did you say when you were a newbie? If you still happen to have access to those logs, do you mind sharing? I will start with an event on day 3 of my adventures in Wurm. As we walked from the portal area coming from GV, I encountered this man on a horse who I thought was an NPC. After some confusion, he set both my friend and I with some food, a lump of iron, some tools and two cows to ride... yes, cows. We laughed so much at how silly we looked riding cows, but it was epic. We settled in a water level and horribly wet area and there it was where I cut my first tree. The next day I got a boat from a kind soul and we went elsewhere (Xanadu) where I settled.     Your continuous push of the "query" could make for a change that no one wants. And you're supporting the nature of your query by stating that things should be uniform across the board. So, in essence, you're asking for a change... but not directly. Or you're asking for the other stuff to get reverted by presenting this argument (which, by the way, never works around here.... you should know by now that you don't make an outlandish suggestion to the Wurm team in hopes that they will see their previous mistake and that they'll correct their bumble up, because they won't. They'll just implement your outlandish idea too). Stop poking the sleeping bear. You really don't want to be bit and neither do any of the rest of us.

    This exists both in WO and WU to make deed export (a little bit) less exploitable, but I don't really mind if someone will override this behavior via WU mod. Just try to keep the overall heights sane. Volunteer developer here, so no wage/benefits other than forum badge and possibility to help in development of such awesome game. To be honest, I am actually leaning towards this option: collecting data takes very little, almost unnoticeable amounts of data, program is open sourced so there is no room for hidden stuff. Some people don't like being tracked even if this is just anonymous data, but knowing how users actually use the program helps a lot in developing it.

    This is actually something I started working on with @urban, made a start and kind of dropped it when I stopped playing as much wurm and stopped modding. If no one else is working on this I could potentially continue but it would probably be more beneficial if someone in the community who is still active made the site, http://wurmmods.com/ is what I have so far as a starting point. P.S. Pretty sure none of the functionality works so clicking links/signing in does pretty much nothing.

    I won't touch Unity. It's a breeding ground for sloppy programming and kids who think "Hello World" makes a game. Now if you said Unreal, that might make me a tiny bit excited. The thing is... Wurm's got a custom engine, and one that's undergoing a rewrite anyway. Also, being a programmer for a while... languages tend to become simply machine dialects. I never understood all this hype to favor one or another. They're tools... yes, you want an appropriate tool for the job, but ultimately it's the skill of the wielder that determines success.

    +1. Freedom is the backbone of wurm and thus freedom players should not be treated like 2nd class players, as it is right now.
