Update: For now, my priest does not have premium so this service is on pause! My new nahjo priest Shalestina is offering her gentle healing touch for your sickly critters. 50c per cast/bad trait. For jobs under 5 casts, I charge 50c travel fees. No travel fees for 5 or more cast jobs. Do you really want them to go through this?

Let us attach lantern or another lamp to a wagon or something to that effect. I want to be able to find my wagon easily in messy/large mines or in the field at night. This is not a crucial matter but I just wanted to put it out there. Thank you for reading

This weeks header image by fairyshine (though I did need to turn a gif into a solid screenshot!) Hi everyone! No Patch notes for this week as we've been hard at work on planning some big updates down the line, doesn't mean nothings been going on though! WU beta A new beta was launched for Wurm Unlimited, with a whole range of fixes aimed at hell creatures spawning, shoulder pads showing, and various other admin bugs. Vyolette joins the team! We also have a new staff member, Vyolette working with us in order to catalogue and track Wurm Unlimited bugs, allowing us to better address these issues. Be nice! Crossing server issues Some players have encountered an extremely rare issue when crossing servers that left their inventory empty. The dev team is working on identifying this issue, but as per Enkis WSA, please DO NOT cross back. Instead, log a support ticket immediately, or jump in IRC to grab a GM. If you have not crossed the server border, your inventory should be easily recovered. A true hunt Chaos is in for another hunt this month, with some good old fashioned slayings. Avatars will be set up in locations for players to hunt down, fight, and if they're lucky, kill. All loot on the avatars will be for the players to take so if you're headed out, be sure to bring gear, friends, and luck. Strange materials Whispers abound of these strange artifacts left from the rifts, unnatural trees, glowing stones and crystals. Some have even rumoured that they will soon be collected as resources, for unknown purposes. Xanadu Domains On Saturday, the 30th of July, some time in the morning server time (UTC+1) we will be attempting another run of the new domain system on Xanadu. The system has been further optimised and will hopefully avoid causing lag. The devs will be on hand to monitor lag and will disable the system if necessary, fingers crossed! Community Content I'm a huge fan of videos and streams of Wurm, and this weeks community content is no exception. This is a video of Huntington Castle, on Pristine by Sirene. It's an amazing work of terraforming, connecting two small islands together, and definitely worth checking out. That's it for this week, see some of you on Chaos this weekend, the rest of you, keep on wurming! Retrograde & the Wurm team.

This is the first part of a series of articles on the "physics and astronomy" of the universe of Wurm Online, trying to describe the structure, dynamics and "laws of nature" of our in-game world . The information compiled here has been carefully researched and discussed by a small group of players who call themselves "The Wurm Astronomical Society" (Docterchese, McGarnicle, Valdor, WojorowskiPL and Yaga). Part 1 summarizes all we know about the basic dimensions of the Wurm universe: tiles, distances, slopes and heights. Part 2 is here: http://forum.wurmonline.com/index.php?/topic/143679-the-wurm-universe-part-2-time-date-and-calendar/ The most basic unit of measurement is defined by the size of a tile. Tiles are the equally sized squares that the landscape of Wurm Online is entirely composed of. In the 3D world of Wurm a tile can be either flat or inclined, so that one or more of its corners can be higher or lower than the others. In all our calculations we used the following fundamental information, given in the Wurmpedia (http://www.wurmpedia.com/index.php/Tile) : How can we measure distances and heights in Wurm? Originally we tried to use a spyglass, because it displays the distance between the observer and an object pointed to by the crosshairs: Using a spyglass is sufficient to verify the basic unit of measurement (1 tile = 4m x 4m) and to measure linear distances within a reasonable accuracy. However, when it comes to measuring heights it turned out that a spyglass is not quite accurate enough to yield reliable results. Thus we need to use a more precise method: triangulation! This method uses basic trigonometric functions to determine the height of an object. To determine the height H of an object, you define a reference point, take a screenshot (as shown in the example) and measure the angle α between the ground and the top of the object, as seen from the reference point. (As we have no means to measure angles in-game, we need to use a graphics program to determine the angle on the screenshot.) Additionally you need to measure the horizontal distance, which you obtain by counting the number of tiles T (remember: one tile corresponds to a distance of 4 meters). You then get the height H by using this formula: Here is an example: For a distance of 40 tiles (T=160m) we measure an angle of 14°. Thus, our avatar of Magranon would have a height of: H = 160m x tan(14°) = 40m (Please note that the result has to be rounded, due to the immanent inaccuracy of this method.) Here is a list of heights for some arbitrary objects, just to give some examples (sorry, this forum doesn't provide tables): Player character: 1.7m House wall (1 floor): 3.0m (note: the ground floor of a house has a height of 3.3m) Pillar: 5.6m Freedom tower (incl. flag): 25m Colossus: 34m Deity avatar 40m Finally, talking about measuring heights, we must look at another basic unit of measurement used in the Wurm universe: dirts. Whenever we see sloped tiles defining the 3D landscape the elevation of slopes is given in terms of the amount of "dirts dropped". When terraforming the land you use a shovel to dig or drop dirt - you add or subtract one "unit of dirt" with each action of the shovel. Using the method of triangulation described above we can find out how these "units of dirt" correspond to metric units. By dropping dirt we make elevated platforms of various heights, thus creating different slopes. We then position an observer in a pit, so that the eye level is slightly above the ground, and take screenshots: .. Measuring the angles and using the formula given above, we can triangulate the elevation of the platform: .. We obtain the following table (for slopes spanning a single tile): Slope .. Angle .. Elevation (m) ---------------------------------------- 10 ...... 14.0 .... 1.0 20 ...... 26.6 .... 2.0 30 ...... 36.9 .... 3.0 40 ...... 45.0 .... 4.0 50 ...... 51.3 .... 5.0 60 ...... 56.3 .... 6.0 70 ...... 60.3 .... 7.0 80 ...... 63.4 .... 8.0 90 ...... 66.0 .... 9.0 100 ..... 68.2 ... 10.0 150 ..... 75.1 ... 15.0 200 ..... 78.7 ... 20.0 Thus, there is a simple relation between "dirts" and metric units: Using this method it is also possible to determine the height of a player character with sufficient accuracy: We plan to continue this series with the following chapters: "Part 2: Time, Date and Calendar" "Part 3: The planet Wurm (Basic Physics)" "Part 4: Sky and Stars (Basic Astronomy)" "Part 5: Sol and the Moons (Celestial Mechanics of the Solar System)" .... etc...... The articles can also be found in Wurmpedia.

Alright, my friend. I've been lazy long enough. You can read the raw code here. Let's jam, and figure this out in full (and english): You start with "mod" at 1.0. If the wall you are looking at resides in a village and one of the following conditions are true: If there is less than a month left in upkeep, mod is multiplied by 10. If the wall resides in a currently active kingdom, or the server is a homeserver, mod is multiplied by 0.5. If the wall is in a cave (Cave Dwelling), mod is multiplied by 0.75. Now, multiply mod by 86,400. This is how many seconds inbetween each "tick" of damage. For reference, this is 24 hours. If, for example, there is less than a month left in upkeep and it is a homeserver (multiply 1.0 * 10.0 * 0.5), it will take 5 days before it "ticks" damage. Now to calculate damage. In order to start, you need to determine whether or not the owner is inactive. Inactivity is described as one of the following two conditions being true: The owner's character info has been deleted (purged from the database). The owner has not logged in for 84 days (the game's definition of 3 months, since it considers 28 days to be a month). If the owner is considered inactive, the wall will take an extra 3 (flat) damage on top of normal decay. Furthermore, if it is on the perimeter of a village, and the owner is both inactive as well as not a citizen of the village upon which perimeter the wall sits, the wall will take a further 3 (flat) extra damage. Finally, the normal decay: this.setDamage(this.damage + 0.1f * this.getDamageModifier()); The damage modifier can vary. Here are the two values that can be returned: Stone Buildings return 100.0f / Math.max(1.0f, this.currentQL * (100.0f - this.damage) / 100.0f) * 0.3f; Non-Stone Buildings return 100.0f / Math.max(1.0f, this.currentQL * (100.0f - this.damage) / 100.0f); Basically, stone buildings decay at 30% of the rate that non-stone buildings do. Hopefully, that gives you all the math and logic you need in order to determine exactly when that next building will decay so you can snatch the rares inside!

I've been having this problem for a few months. Here's an on-deed bridge that picks up new spawns every day: And here is a picture of my house. It's a three story house that's mostly underground. I use bridges to simulate that the third floor is the first floor. You didn't need all those details, I just wanted to tell you about my cool house. But you can see that horses and cows are happy to spawn on those bridges as well. I figure this shouldn't happen on deed? Someone with the WU source open, please check this out. Thanks.

Hi there! First for a short introduction, I'm Vyolette, the newest member of the WU team. My role is to collect information on bug reports and attempt to duplicate said issues on my own, and report my findings to the team. I'm also happy to help with any technical issues that don't require the attention of the coders. That said, bug report away! If you'd like to report bugs directly to me, my email address is vyolette@wurmonline.com - but please, include as much detail as possible, including version and mode of server you're running, any changes you've made to the settings and any mods you're running. Thanks so much! --Vyolette

Warlander is most likely referring to the kind of code practices and conventions used in design and documentation within the actual sourcecode. The sort of practices taught in academic circles to software engineers to facilitate development work on large projects involving teams of programmers. Self-taught enthusiasts tend to do things their own different ways, which can lead to issues on large complex projects. For example, being able to quickly discern what a particular algorithm is intended to accomplish when written by another, let alone trying to recall one's own work and thought process later down the road. We humans are not mind-readers.

Tnx Wulfmaer for the location post! I'll be there, bringing the family again For those joining and want to stay alive during battle, we will be building a healer shrine. The priests casting healing spells will need a very large amount of favor. To simplify and insure the constant healing we will need lots of filled gems with favor. I you have and can spare any, please bring them along and drop them in the gem chest that will be at the healer shrine, tnx! An alternative to gain favor for the Fo priest is pieces of cloth, higher ql is better as less of it is needed per sac. Mac & Scotty

"The main focus for future development will probably be what the players decide" @Retrograde @Keenan @Budda Where is this view now rolf? Or maybe the dev's have just begun to do their own thing and have strayed away from rolfs intentional plan? Is wurm not a game where the players make the game itself? I thought it was. Dev's shutting down suggestions with 70% in favor of odds suggests otherwise.

You are right, I misread that part a bit. The exact line for the code checking if they can restock: if (value > 0 && myshop != null && myshop.getMoney() < (long)Servers.localServer.getTraderMaxIrons() && (myshop.getSellRatio() > 0.1f || Server.getInstance().isPS()) && (Server.getInstance().isPS() || Servers.localServer.id != 15 || kingsMoney.getMoney() > 2000000)) { In the final area of the code, you can see that one of the following has to be true: (Server.getInstance().isPS() || Servers.localServer.id != 15 || kingsMoney.getMoney() > 2000000) I don't know what isPS() means, but the default is value is "false" so I'll skip that one. On any server that is not id 15, the 2nd check passes. However, on server with ID 15, the kingsMoney.getMoney() > 2 gold must pass in order to succeed. So, without knowing about Wurm's server infrastructure and what servers are what ID, I cannot tell you which one requires 2 gold in the coffer.

We are aware of the methods folks generally use to exclude other players from reaping rewards. We will be taking that into consideration as we go. Do keep in mind that Retrograde is given small bits of information to pass along, but the majority of the functionality is often still in development at the time. Look for a post regarding a public test of the feature before it goes live.

If I'm not mistaken, beta notes are not posted here. I can ask Retrograde. The wording in your bit about highlighting feels a little like a sleight, otherwise good post and thank you. There's a chance we will be changing our forum/community hub structure and the way information is delivered/feedback gathered. Now that we have a person dedicated to gathering issues and bugs, we need to make the forum and hub less divergent. For now Vyolette has been busy going through the backlog of posts on the Hub and here on the forums and building a list of issues, as well as tackling some of the newer ones and attempting repro cases. I personally hate the Community Hub, Steam has done a terrible job on that bit, but it's really where I'd have to say a majority of players communicate with us. These forums here are more for old WO vets it seems.

I can see why this would concern people, however, should also be balanced by people being able to deed an area where a rift previously took place. Hopefully, the resources will be available fairly soon after the rift finishes, and decay if not harvested within a week or so (if the resources are just for fun and not really OP stuff, this may also happen), so the area becomes part of normal Wurm again and deedable as before the Rift took place. I second that the resources be mostly useless stuff instead of elitist toys. Lastly, again, a request to the dev team to please look into carts and wagons not following terrain under them. I know you are busy, but this issue has been around for a very long time and is extremely annoying.

In Wo I would just stand in the center of six, cut them down each and drop them facing a certain direction on one tile away from the next series of six line. Then riding along on a wagon it is easy to pick them up to take elsewhere to chop into logs with a coc hatchet. Got to make the best of what you got and lets wishes be reserved for the well. Now on a certain server in WU I just pick them up when cut down and when I have 10 in inventory chop them all into logs in about 10-15 seconds in that series of 10. Then drop the logs on the ground to pick up with a large cart that carries 6 large crates in it to sort them out per QL. Quite a bit faster, yea... =Ayes=

    1) Ya the fact that you guys waited over a year till after you reset the server to even attempt balance changes had nothing to do with it right? The fact that we had 4 new player gods throw into an already unbalanced system priest system had nothing to do with it right? The total lack of any real Dev attention on pvp for years before that had nothing to do with the population numbers that forced the elevation reset to start? Right? Right?! 2) So we want to let the pvp server decay to nothing because of the small group of players who have no ambition to pvp and have sat on deed since the map reset treating epic as a freedom server? Ok how about we just give them a free transfer to freedom where they want to be anyways... 3) Oh you mean those changes that after people tested them and commented on them the comments where deleted as "Go actually try the update first" after we spend over 4 hours doing just that before replying? Those small changes are sure going to bring back the 300 people who left after you guys ignored them for 3 years right? Because ignoring them when you ask for feedback is sure going to give them the confidence that you guys are listening for once? Right? Not saying we had nothing to do with it as players because we did to an extent and we sure didn't help the situation the devs left the game in, but a complete and total lack of some one to give this project a vision to move forward is sadly missing from your team. https://i.gyazo.com/faf896644e96392cc4137d6a6199a36e.png This is the epic I remember when I started 300 people on at 5pm est sunday night 2 years ago and I miss it.

Inventory Items Vanishing When Transferring Servers There has been a few odd situations where someone loses their inventory items when they transfer servers by boat. (currently not observed happening by portal, but no promises!) The Game Masters would like to alert anyone who encounters this issue to please do not cross back over to the previous server in hopes of regaining your items. Should you encounter this rare situation please stop and put in a support ticket right away. We have good chances at quick item recovery if you do not cross back over. Thank You, Wurm Online Team

if the development team really wanted to go after the issues of PvP servers they would have already. with the negligible things that are being tested now, how is it a surprise to any of you? from the top to bottom PvP needs a serious rework but it won't happen until Epic and Chaos are in the red. I'm not be a pessimist, name one groundbreaking change that has been put on the live servers for the past couple of years? (and by groundbreaking i don't mean gamebreaking)
  45. 1 point
I disagree! (And to be honest, I don't really get your point.) Why are units of measurement needed? They are essential for comparing the size and dimensions of objects - in the real world as well as in any game that "simulates" a real world! Whenever people are planning things they need to have a scale and units to measure and compare the size of things. Here are some examples of typical questions Wurm players may ask: "How long will it take me to run / ride a certain distance?" "How many floors do I have to build to get a structure that is as high as a guard tower / a hill?" "How many dirts will I have to drop in order to hide this colossus?" "Will this planned slope be too steep for my horse / cart?" "Will this wall of dirt effectively block the view of characters?" ..... and many more. It is obvious that answering questions like these would be difficult without having a common system of linear units of measurement. (That's why mankind introduced linear measures a long, long time ago.) They are needed in the real world just as much as in the Wurm world. Of course, it doesn't have to be the "meter" - we could use any other unit of measurement ("Wurm yards", "Rolf leagues", "Wogical miles"... ;)). Only, it seems convenient to use units everyone is familiar with - that's why Wurm devs used the meter, obviously. Most players "live" in the Wurm world very much like they would in the real world. So, why wouldn't they want to measure the size and dimensions of objects and the terrain? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- EDIT: Oh - and of course you are welcome just to ignore this article, if metrics are not relevant for you. Nobody will ever expect you to make use of the information given here or blame you for not needing them.

You are learning valuable lessons at this stage; just have the patience to keep them for future use. You will become wary of the pitfalls, then you will easily avoid them. Don't expect anything except that those issues will prevail.
