    To all of you not team members that have responded to this post, I commend you on your very good understanding of these issues. Most all of the posts here are really spot on. There are a couple of tidbits I would like to add though. With the question Mishia put forth about dedicated servers being used, that is a risk you take. If that dedicated server is being used towards a negative influence on Wurm Online, we will lock it out even if your account on that dedicated server is not the one causing the issues. There is nothing we will do to assist with proxied services like that as it would be like leaving the front door open during a zombie attack. As for dedicated IP changes, there is the very rare conflict possibility, however, we are very considerate with an ISP and do our utmost not to lock out an entire ISP if we have an alternative. Yet it is still possible to run into a future IP conflict in this manner, Those cases do get reviewed and we will investigate why that IP was previously banned. In such cases it is possible to lift the IP ban after we can show with confidence that the ne'er-do-well is no longer affiliated with that IP unless there is further issues associated with the IP. In regards to providing evidence. That is a trap. We do prefer to provide an explanation as to why the ban has occurred. Unfortunately, many times the person banned is only requesting information in order to learn what it is we see and by what method they were caught in order to avoid future detection. Taking on the responsibility of a Game Master, we know that it is entirely possible that we will make mistakes, even mistakes that can cost Wurm members, that is why we work as a team with layers of internal review. You may hear us use the term "Toxic" players in the future. This will be for those that simply cannot be salvaged from their own negative behavior and negative influence on the game and community. These sort of cases will always be heavily vetted by the team, as we do not take any of these cases lightly and strive to do our best with the tools we have. Thank you, Enki (Head Game Master)

    Coming from a player who has played Wurm for six years, here is my opinion on the low pop count and the reasons for it in order of greatest to smallest impact on population. 1. Wurm is too expensive to play. You pay for your toon. You pay for your priest alt. You pay to place deeds. You pay to upkeep deeds. You pay other players for items. You pay, you pay, and you pay. 2. Wurm is pay to win. The skill grind is awesome. But, with that comes the realization that you will never reach end game without A - LIVING in Wurm 24/7 or B - buying someone else's high-skilled toon. Those players with tons of money will buy the elite toons and thus reach that goal years before and leverage that toon to make money. CodeClub does not benefit from these player to player transactions, but I still consider this pay to win. 3. Wurm's cryptic and sometimes non-existent documentation (release notes not detailed enough, wiki has incomplete/inaccurate information, raw calculations) makes Wurm too intimidating for new players to wrap their heads around it. 4. The solution to everything: Create a new map, which is a solution to nothing. 5. Bugs take a back seat to features. This is exactly opposite of sound development practices. Bugs always make the top of the backlog list in most dev environments. 6. The game engine is nigh obsolete and should be replaced. It is a good thing that you cannot see your "car"-toon standing in the beautiful and breathtaking scenery of Wurm. The environment is awesome but the player avatars not so much. This lends to poor PVP/fighting experiences. 7. Advertisting is nill as in nothing as in nada as in how many times do you see Wurm listed in "Top 10" youtube videos for sandbox, crafting, etc. etc. When did you see a Wurm banner on your favorite MMO site? I love Wurm but when I stare at this list I hate Wurm.

    Please consider coding an event message if a slayed unique drops a tome. Like scale and drake, tomes are extremely valuable and highly sought after. Since scale and drake were changed to make it more fair for everyone to receive a portion, please make it more fair for everyone to know if a tome appears after a unique is slayed. I believe this needed feature will provide the transparency to public unique slayings to make them more enjoyable community events.

    I'd first like to say - if this gets out of hand, please lock the topic. I asked before hand if this is okay to discuss. In my opinion, bans are handled badly (as players can be banned with no case against them) and the appeal process is a very lengthy process in which you usually get a response every few days like: we are working on this or this is under review. I feel that if a player has been banned and no evidence has been given from the staff member who has banned the player, the player should be un-banned until the staff member has sufficient evidence to rightfully ban. Again, most bans are one-sided and other members of staff are certain this is true. With this said, please discuss.

    Reading through as much of this as I could... I have a few suggestions. Why not delay the Elevation change, and launch a contest instead? A map designing contest. You could even make it open to premium, epic-only accounts if you want to keep it on-topic (and eliminate the chances for phallic landmasses). With this, people should register individually or in teams. Then you'll have your first-ever player-designed map, another milestone for Wurm Online and a potential thing for future map releases. Failing that, please listen to what these players are saying. Even a non-Epic player can see the failing here. Who wants to sail for hours to get to a raid that will take hours? The ONLY reason for so much water on a PvP map... is if there's ship-to-ship combat coming. I mean canons and such. I doubt this very much though. Boats barely work right with collision and such the way it is now... get them floating first, before you code in sinking them.

    A dev that doesn't tell his own playerbase to quit if they don't like something would be a huge step forward. other than that, I may be wrong here but it feels like the whole dev team doesn't give a single damn about this game at all, as long as a little bit of money keeps flowing in.

    There are currently no plans to delay the release of the map. Any decision will have to be run past the development team, so until that happens and a decision to change it or delay it is made, it's going ahead as planned.

    Hey Everyone! We are quickly approaching the release of our Spring Update which will be in two parts. First off, the current Elevation server on the Epic cluster is going to be shut down next Monday on April 13th and after a day or so will be replaced by an all-new and much bigger map which is revealed below! We plan to introduce bridges to all servers roughly a week after the Elevation reset, providing that there are no serious bugs or issues found over the next week or so. Here's the news in full, Elevation Reset and New Map Reveal EDIT 13/04/2015: THE MAP BELOW IS NO LONGER THE MAP FOR NEW ELEVATION. SEE HERE FOR THE UPDATED VERSION The current Elevation server is on schedule to be shut down on Monday 13th April. We will then need a couple of days to set up the new map and connect it to the Desertion, Affliction and Serenity home servers. We expect that you will be able to travel or log in to the new map by Wednesday 15th April. I know a lot of people have been eager to find out what the new map looks like, so I have included a sample of it below. We will be releasing a full quality version soon and the in-game map version with accurate start deed locations. Note: The dots represent approximate start deed locations and the North and far South dots on the central Island are the Altar of Three and Bone Altar respectively. This is a unique style of server which is unseen in Wurm until now. An island themed map with a central PvP / HoTA (Hunt of the Ancients) area and further surrounding continents which should make great home bases for kingdoms, with plenty of room for a few player-made custom Kingdoms thrown into the mix! In response to feedback regarding free to play accounts, the central island is fully covered by a no-spawn zone for free accounts to prevent people abusing them to interfere with HoTA. Each of the three template kingdoms has a balanced start deed near to the HoTA zone so that people can return to the action quickly if they die in a fight. Overall the map has plenty of good flat land to build upon with a few mountains here and there. This is so players can move around quickly and have the maximum amount of space to build settlements without having to worry about terrain features getting in the way too much. However there are lots of little islands dotted around the place for people to explore, gather resources, or even build sea-forts should they wish! Some coastal areas have shallow waters, perfect for building harbours and docks. I think this Map has a lot of potential, with some adapted play styles, but we are eager to hear your feedback too! We have also refunded at least 80% of traders on the existing Elevation server now so we are glad that the vast majority have been claimed and reimbursed. Bridges Bridges are now very close to completion and we expect they will be released approximately a week after the Elevation reset. There are still a couple of little bugs that we are working on. Overall the major focus for the team this week, as it has been for several weeks, is to ensure bridges are as stable as possible for release. There are no new visuals to announce related to them, however we have been working on the way rope bridges hang! So snazzy! Map Dumps We have found a way to host the map dumps with a googlemaps style interface for Chaos and Xanadu, and we are in the process of adapting map dumps for Independence and Deliverance. I have also received offers to help seed torrents so that option will be available and hopefully pretty fast downloads too. I expect the map dumps will be released within the next week or so. New Weapon Models Continuing on from the small maul I showed you a couple of weeks ago, the art developers are happy to reveal the new (WIP) model for the medium maul and three axe types. So shiny! If all goes to plan we should see them in game soon! New Deity After a few short weeks as a demigod, Tosiek has ascended to become Wurm's first ever player deity. Their religion will have a relatively random mix of spells which should hopefully bring out a fun and interesting combination which is not considered overpowered versus the other deities. For now we are going to keep quiet about what those spells are and allow followers of Tosiek to discover that over the coming weeks and months. We look forward to hearing how it turns out!     This is now a post your own maps thread. HIGHLIGHTS: Removed middle of the ocean mountains replacing them with regular, flatter islands. A couple mountain-ish islands remain because variety.Moved landmasses closer together eliminating high volume of un-used ocean space.Added to the 'home' landmasses allowing easier access to 'HoTA' island with slight player modification, or not if they so choose.Removed forward NPC starter deeds.Added about 30 islands to the SE because it looks cool. This obviously isn't 100% serious however I personally think it actually fixes the majority of the problems, whilst remaining in the general idea of what I think rolf was going for.

    Lots of water= No PvP On elevation or the home servers, you have the outer ocean, if you are sailing along it and someone else is, you will run into each other pretty much every time. On this server you have areas almost the size of elevation between the landmasses, running into anyone while sailing is going to be extremely rare. The main thing is that you are REQUIRED to sail to go anywhere, and those sail times are obscene(and much longer than I assumed, but I haven't played wurm in years, they seem pretty likely now that I thought about it), going out to roam for pvp should not require 2 and a half hours of sailing. It makes it extremely difficult to roam (not even counting travel time), since you have to take enough boats to carry horses for everyone, and running into anyone is going to be even rarer than on elevation. It pretty much removes the ability to control territory, since the central island is pretty much locked down by the lights+starter deeds and deeding on someone elses starter island would just put you a long sail away from the rest of your kingdom.

    Umm... you should really be ashamed for posting this, as well as resigning from your CA position! I sold the tome charge to Bibi. She has always been the nicest person to work and play with. This is terrible to do to someone. I bought the tome from another player about 3-4 months ago. I used one charge for myself, right before the hunts this weekend and everyone saw my Worgs. SOld the other two charges. One to Bibi and the 3rd to someone else. Does this clear it up for you Galatyn?

    honestly, until he earns back a bit of trust with the community, people should continue to mention he can't be trusted and they should be aware of that. all this move on nonsense is ridiculous, his rep shouldn't be restored just like that because you guys think it's unfair.

    ITT, people who don't PvP, haven't PvP in years, saying why this is an amazing map because of mechanics that don't work, haven't worked in years or since their implementation, and due to their lack of understanding of the current and working game mechanics in play. Not to mention this map encouraging boat pvp, which only works if both sides want to fight, and even then you can have position desyncs that are 5-70 tiles away so you can't ever see where they are, or stay in combat, and when you cross borders you crash/lag out. This is why the PvP clusters are always ###### because people like Klaa and others go "this is great once rolf adds x + 32 features"

    No, its not about finding a new playstyle. The sad part is, NO PVP PLAYSTYLE fits this map. Sailing around pvp does not fit this map because there is simply TOO MUCH water, too many possible routes to take, and very unlikely to find anyone. Land pvp playstyle does not fit either, the only area this is possible is the center part of the map, which is much too small, and not enough room for anything but a simple hota deed. No room for pmk's, no room for expansion, nothing but hota hota hota hota hota. hota. We dont need that . Get hota out of here and make that middle area deedable and maybe itd be a bit better. Even then the center is no where near the size it needs to be. It should be at least the size of old elevation.

    The problem here is that I can't go up to one of my friends and say, "Hey man, I know of this great game called Wurm Online, we should play some time," for two reasons: 1. He/she would quit, guaranteed, and 2. It would be a lie. This is the point where it is up to us, the players, to try our hardest to get Rolf to listen (even if it means burning through forum accounts like a token house bike account burns through cordage). We don't even know how long this game will be around. We notice the money issues, we see what is going on, regardless of whether or not it is an official statement or someone "spreading false rumors". We aren't saying these things because we want to hurt the game or the staff. We complain because we care. We want change. We know this game has potential, and we want it to reach that potential, but we know there are issues. Listen to your players because often they know what they are talking about. They... WE... are not stupid, we do not have malicious intent. We want this game to be the best it can be. It obviously isn't anywhere close now. We want that to change. We are here to help.

    I think the F2P balance is about right. You can get a good feel for the game, explore, do the basic stuff, but to really play it, you need premium. I'm undecided on letting F2P chars ride horses - you can already ride cows as a non-prem, so you do have some options. For me, the biggest barriers to entry are the lack of good documentation and the long-term push for features over bug-fixes. A good comparison in terms of documentation is Dwarf Fortress - the game docs are also player-maintained wiki, and it's a similarly complicated game with a steep learning curve (actually, DF is probably more complicated than Wurm). However, the author doesn't actively work to keep game mechanics out of public knowledge - where it's felt that knowing things in advance might 'spoil the surprise', the wiki gives you the option of not seeing that information if you prefer not to. Release notes should be detailed and should actually show what a change did, not just 'something changed'. Ninja changes just shouldn't happen. In terms of fixing broken stuff, too many bugs persist so long that they become disguised features. I don't play on Xanadu, for example, but I hear constant moaning about how bad the lag is over there - this should be a priority to fix, as I'm pretty sure Wurm loses players over this sort of thing! It's hard to imagine any serious advertising push when the game can't handle the players its already got. While I'm as excited as anyone to see bridges live, given the number of major new features that have landed (sometimes leaving a crater) over the last year, I have to ask whether some of that dev time couldn't have been better spent sorting out some of the existing stuff.

    I'm glad wurm isn't overpopulated like most other mmo's yes it turns in more profits for the game company but it lowers the gaming experience in my opinion, i prefer the small community of wurm, where you can get to know people in a way. to sum it up- more people = more chaos/madness. ps: those who stay usually stay forever, it's a unique game that you either love or hate.

    Just think about this Epic players voted for a map reset because the map we had was too plain, small, and was wearing scars from past deeds and valrei events. Epic players receive a map that is 4x the size of our server, 70% more water, a HoTA-centric map (that no one really cares about, the HoTA is a glorified count the names in local and go/turn away) and essentially home server islands on the respective borders of the real home servers. The years of work that went into our previous map for this? Kinda a kick in the crotch. The development team doesn't see anything wrong with how this map looks? I mean seriously, I can see how Rolf wants to change things up but this map isn't even doing it, its just making traveling a huge pain in the butt. I could barely stand sailing around the Elevation map once looking for PvP... I can't even fathom how bad this will be once some deeds are up and running. I invite any developer to come raid with any kingdom and see how long the preperations/traveling/actual raiding/maybe PvP/traveling back takes. And this is with the sized map we have now. People won't have 8 hours to put towards a game to raid an actual raidable deed on this new map. With the Zerus raid on Elevation I was catapulting for 5-6 hours, not even counting the dirt ramp we built or the traveling. This is obviously the wrong direction for Epic and its a shame that Rolf and his team won't take the feedback they are overwhelmingly getting about this preview.

    Lmao. I won't play on the map but I have to ask - Has the map maker ever actually tried sailing in Wurm Online? I send my sincere condolences to the Elevation players. We might've not always been on the best terms with each other but I never wished for you to be put through this hell.

    As I began to play this game, the following came to mind. The Wurm Effect Def: The unique influence each individual experiences while playing Wurm Online. The full extend of its effects is yet unknown, but appears to be different for each person involved. It is known to contribute to Borderline Disorder, as it creates a multitude of opposite feelings within a brief amount of time, leaving the individual in a state of anger, happiness, frustration or satisfaction. It is also known to help individuals under the influence of conditions such as Depression to improve their mental health, as it creates a friendly environment and offers a purpose to getting up in the morning. The effects of the "Wurm Effect" include addiction to the game, the urge to spend money on it, the feeling of importance when ingame decisions have been made, the strong motivation when beginning a new project, and the ability to push aside negative feelings and to keep going even beyond your usual limits. The individual effects become more clear when the player encounters situations that exceed their normal range of frustration. While few can escape its influence, the severity of the effect experienced depends on each individual player. Kicking in after only days, sometimes weeks, it is a dangerous condition affecting the vast majority of all Wurm Online players. The most dangerous part of the game includes coming back to it each and every time even after having "left for good". Temp: The influence of the effect is currently known to be the strongest on Xanadu, as severe ingame lag, causing frustration, anger, loss of items/animals, or even death, can be experienced on an everyday basis. Well, this is as far as I got. I thought it was stupid to think this at first, but who can deny this? I have been in for a few days, almost everyone I know has "Quit For Good" multiple times and yet is still playing for me to meet, and I have already spent more money on this game within days than I have spent on other games within years of playing, and I do not think it is going to stop. So I ask you, are you suffering from this condition? Because I know that I am.

    except, playstyles are limited by the game mechanics in play, and seeing as how those mechanics haven't changed in like 7 years, its not adding any, its removing them. it will encourage the shittiest style of pvp possible, thats what for certain it will do, and PMK's will never be able to attend HOTA. You will never be able to catch up to another sailboat or knarr if they don't want you to, and you will never raid valrei spires in the middle of an ocean. It will encourage leveling things, which makes people quit, and it will encourage karma teleporting, which is completely cheese.

    this is not the place to discuss what did or did not happen hiding all replys that are nor responding to the buying of the knarrs. from the desk (or somewhere thereabouts) of Enki: The issue the now removed derailing was in reference to has been dealt with appropriately. Those of you involved or aware of that situation may contact the involved parties for confirmation.

    When people go out and can run away to a mine/safe area, PvP CAN happen. When people have no safe area to fall back to, they don't go out (unless they are in massive groups), so NO PvP happens.

    Is your request taking into consideration the previous arrangement, where people kept Dragons as pets inside walls? The temporary mine entrapment (prior to an organized hunt) is a benefit to the community. People that would not otherwise get to hunt a dragon, get a good chance at a hit, a title, and everyone there gets some blood and hide. The hunt organizers then have to repair the mine, collapse steep drop shafts, and tidy things up. I like it just the way it is.

    That map... when the teamspeak saw it everyone cried out in synch "oh my god"... and not in a good way. Edit: we were looking forward to a larger continent to fight on with possibly large rivers cutting through and some mountains etc similar to chaos.... everyone is severely dissapointed on ts right now... litterary noone likes it... not even remotely. Edit2: Where the hell are PMKs gonna live? Edit3: Where on earth is the players gonna fight? you basicly deleted the massive battleground that was elevation and replaced it with a freeking mini hota and more home servers. Edit4: Where are we even gonna get horses and ###### for hota? what the hell... Edit5: Players from chaos are litterary joining the epic teamspeak just to laugh about the map... Laughing. Edit6: The landmass is LITTERARY smaller than elevation atm... SMALLER! WITH 4 TIMES SIZE! Edit7: Elevation is not all about hota. hota is a tiny thing we do among all the NORMAL warfare... that map removes all normal warfare and basicly just leaves home-server-style raiding at islands... which we already got... we dont want more of it. Edit8: This map can be summarised as "Home servers with a hota island." Edit9: You pretty much removed land roaming... one of the major things people do on elevation..
