Congratulations on crashing what little was left of the games economy in one fell swoop. If this is, in fact, a temporary measure then it should have said so in the change notes. Once again one person's bad suggestion gets implemented, despite the overwhelmingly negative response from the community, while loads of good suggestions are ignored over and over again. Makes no sense.

The mail system in Wurm is now officially the worst mail system of any MMO I have ever played.

-1 Good change. Everyone knows that I love my farwalker as much as the next PvPer but I don't think anyone was under the illusion that they would stay the same forever. I'm just surprised they weren't changed years ago.

Wurm's mail system is now officially the worst mail system of any MMO I have ever played. Had to post that twice just to cope with this change.

This is not fixing the freaking mailing system..If you can put it in your inventory you can mail it is a start.

Way to animate Wurm economy. I wonder who comes up with retarded ideas like this one.

I can't believe unfinished items was removed, that is completely silly. (why? would you do this) Anyway, please, just fix it, let everything be mailed, and i mean EVERYTHING. I still travel, I still use merchants, but i HAATTEEEEEEE.. having to travel now up to 10 hours ONE FREAKING WAY. . . just to pickup a rare + tool that is impossible to mail. I also have allies with skills and I can't make use of their services because their accross xanadu, and I can't mail to them. I mean, just do it for a trial period, like 3 months, and keep track of how much money you are able to sink from all the mailed items. Also keep note of how much less merchants are on the servers (i bet this changes very little, if at all). Then.. decide to keep the change? \o/ Poll added aswell.

From news. I'm not here to debate wether or not farwalkers should work with enemies in local or not but I think it would really be a good idea to give some sort of compensation for people that have them; many people paid very large amounts of silver/euros for these items which have been suddenly nerfed and basically serve no PvP purpose. Some people also purchased very large amounts of them expecting them to retain their value (not me fwiw) Something like 1s/charge would be fair and is actually considerably below the previous market value; but better than nothing. Thoughts?

Unfinished items can no longer be mailed -1 Seriously? Why? It doesn't make sense ... It it was intended to encourage ppl to be more social or to visit more places it's an epic fail. I'm not a hermit, I regulary go out hunting, visiting friends, checking merketplaces. But I DO HAVE A LIFE outside of this game, and can't afford (and don't even want to) sail long hours in a light breeze to get the item I bought or sold. There have been endless pleas from the playerbase to PLEASE fix the mail system. I guess we should have elaborated more on the "fix" because this is definitely NOT what we meant. A lot of ppl have trouble running a single client without crashing, what do you think how many ppl would be able to run a 2nd, 3rd client just to sail? (Not to mention the huge lagspikes we regulary get because you guys forgot to restart the servers, and there is the memory leak bug too) Let ALL items be mailable, don't be your own enemy and let us players give you our money for the stuff we send. An improved mailing system would not effect ppl being more social, I dont think anybody would mail full sets of armors ( yeah we are cheapskates like that) in the future thus would have to travel, and meet other ppls.

Just proves even further that the game developers, as talented as they are, have no idea how to run a business. You don't produce a successful business model by isolating and alienating the vast majority of your customers. I applauded the joining of the servers and it was based on majority opinion...now you further distance and isolate those same people ? You do realize that most of your customer base has a job, family, etc correct? Not everyone has half a day to sail to deliver an item whose value might be 2-3s. It's just a poorly thought out decision from a business perspective.

Worst update ever. People request more items to be mailable, devs nerf mail system even more. Whats next? I hope no devs reads the furnace post or we will end with forges only holding 1 ore at time next week...

Hello Fellow Wurmians! How about we dive a bit deeper into the development today my friends? A look into some interesting but more technical aspects about our everyday work which will give you an understanding of the complex problems and solutions you face in game development. Are you already zooning out? No? Great! Then grab your popcorn and lets Share some News! Creature Spawns Many of you have noticed and reported that there seems to be an uneven spread of the creatures and their spawns. We have been looking into this and have not been able to identify anything out of the ordinary code wise in the complex functions running the creatures spawns and behaviors. It is a very interesting area as it is in essence a small digital ecosystem in itself. To explain further, all creatures have certain different preferences as to what area they spawn in. For example the seal will want to spawn at a tile that is over water but has a rock tile under water next to it. Then there is a random function connected to this which is searching the map for such tiles and there is a kind of dice roll for: -will it spawn? Yes/No. Also, some creatures have the same preferences which will also result in a dice roll deciding which creature will spawn at this specific tile. At last a roll for: What traits will it have? Multiply this with the amount of creatures there is in wurm, combine it with different sets of behaviors and It adds up. In the end you have yourself a self governing system with both pre set and many random events. Much like in real ecosystems. To be able to address the reported problems one would need to have a godlike overview of a land in Wurm and all of its creations. Where do they spawn, where do they move and do they stop or cluster? Basically, can we find patterns and what can be learned. Because only once you can recreate a behavior, you can change a behavior. Server Programmer Erik is the one fronting the endeavor of how to more closely monitor the reported inconsistencies in our digital fauna. He has created a new tool which can do all of the things I mentioned above and gives us a graphical representations of an entire island, its basic geometry and each single creature inhabiting it. When rendered in a sequence over time, we can put that into an animation and follow the migrations and behavior of creatures on an entire server. This is Erik's private test server which is the same size as Black Light home server 4x4km. Click image for a larger version Each single dot represents one or more creatures placed on the same 1 tile. Grey to light Grey: Low to high rock Green to light Green: Low to high ground Blue to light Blue: Deep to shallow water Hot Pink: Lava Red: Horses Yellow: Creatures Light Pink: Sea Creatures Boats We have not updated you for a while on the progress of the new Boat models. They have not been forgotten and right now we are working on the collisions for them. You might have noticed the fact that boats clip through the ground and stops about when it reaches the feet of the commander. That is because up to this point the character has been used as the point of reference for collision and that is about to change. The collision checker is being moved to the boat itself which will help prevent several issues but also make the boat behave more realistically. So thank you for keeping patient for a little while longer, we are getting close now. Lod Lod is short for Level of Detail and what it means in a game is basically to gradually increase the complexity level of an object the closer you get to it. Our coders and graphic artists are working closely together on this as it is dependent on both departments for it to be successful. To give you an example, seeing an object from afar does not give you much detail because of the limitation of your sight. Therefore it could be represented by a very simple shape closely resembling what it actually is purely with silhouette and volume. As you move closer you will be able to perceive more detail in the shape and geometry and the object increase its complexity to cater to that. I think you get where I am going with this, so let me shortly tell you how that translates into what we are doing. Three to four different levels of complexity for most models and textures in game. Coding to make the transition between them as good as possible. What it means to you? It means a significant performance increase due to the fact that your computer does not need to handle nearly as much complex objects and high resolution textures at any given time. This without decreasing view distance or the perceived detail. Sounds like a win win to me! Click image for a larger version Click image for a larger version In these pictures you can see how complexity is gradually decreased with a factor of more then 50% per iteration. This is represented other than what you can see, by the number of Tris which can be viewed in the statistics under respective iteration. The "tris" or triangles are basically a measure of how many separate pieces of geometry a 3d object is broken up into. Dolphin Continuing on our sea-quest I present to you the latest addition to our lively creatures, the Dolphin. The model and animation is done which means it is awaiting its data and implementation. Several of the creatures I revealed earlier has now received their data and statistics which means they will probably be going live with the next update. You can see which with the next set of release notes once the update happens. Alright Wurmians that is about all I have to say for today. Thank you for staying with us yet another week as we all love having you with us as we progress. I hope you have enjoyed this update and let us know what you think in the comments. So until next time Keep on Wurming!

There is no way that anyone that reads these forums didn't anticipate this happening eventually. This literally finds its way into every single pvp balance discussion in the top most requested changes and always got poo-poo'ed by the Pay-to-Win crowd. Now Rolf needs to follow up with removing trader draining. Sorry, no compensation for lack of foresight about something NOT sold by the game.

-1 One person made a forum post about this and had stacks and stacks of negative comments, and the devs puts this stupid idea in place the first update after? So no more rare unfinished items can be mailed so the market just fell for those too? Because someone thought we should not have different options for guard towers? In a sandbox creative game?

thats just stupid. instead fixing the mail system so all tools and weapons are mailable the just nerf it to the ground... really i dont get why the breake something instead improving it!

attending dragon slayings is my only hope really to one day amass enough hide to make a drake set..and i'm ok with how long that will take..atleast i know it's possible yet if slayings become privatised..the same few will garner the rewards and riches again. and the rest of us will be left out I don't think i ever say much in the way of complaints on forums as i'm overall a very happy go lucky guy and support the community..yet somethings do need from time to time be spoken out against..and this type of thing saddens me..as it's not game and community building practices..it does the opposite

Just remove mailboxes already. Their functionality has been slowly destroyed over the years by the dev team and it's getting to the point that it is clearly obvious someone in the office (i'm betting Rolf) has a stick up their ass about it and has no intention of ever "fixing" it in the way that the player base wants... said person just wants it disabled. Wurm: Two steps forward. One step back. Always has been, always will be.
  26. 3 points
Docking, you'd have the sailors chucking ropes, sails hoisted so the wind only gently pushes you... also harbors tend to be in bays to protect them from waves and currents (hence the subconscious urge ppl get to make L-shaped docks when their harbor is exposed). Also dropping the anchor halfway to slow oneself down, mules to pull ships/barges up rivers back in the oooooooold days. Problem sailing has right now is that once a light breeze kicks in, light breeze can stick for 48+ hours, or may be gale in 2 hours (HAH.. yeah... 2 hours after the 40hr mark), but the direction will stick pretty much all week. If it's about realism, for starters winds should switch to generally opposite directions at night. Also, while ships did get becalmed in the ages of sails, it was a freak occurrence, not the bloody norm for half the year. Don't believe me, try to light a cigarette on a boat in any body of water larger than a small pond. As a smoker, take my word for it... light breeze at sea is RARE. Even lakes get strong winds because (science alert) there are no obstacles to slow the wind down, and as it'll go down the path of least resistance, that actually adds a bit to their strength from the extra air that's "dodging around the island". To quote a very wise man (me): Light breeze was good for when it was all small servers and the clusters were separated, added a sense of "scale" to the world by lengthening travel. Now that Xanadu's connected everything, it goes from "immersion" to "unnecessary annoyance". Wurm already mostly CONSISTS of unnecessary annoyances, including where actual skillgain's occurrence is RNG-determined. Light breeze, along with that genius mailbox change from today, that's just trying to cull the playerbase further.

And we're still assuming the new ship collisions will still work on canals...................................

next update they are switching to no mail and only breezes, cause thats clearly what the player base wants

Johan RedBaron, please, please, slap those responsible for this mail-change very hard in the back of their head with your hand. If they go "Hey! Wtf, why did you do that for?", then you slap them AGAIN! If the logic behind this was so that chaos-towers and mission-items (pylons and such) couldnt be mailed anymore, then some devs didnt think it through that also unfinished rares are being send. If you want to promote us going to each other to trade instead of using a mailbox, then do something about the horrible speed at which ships sail! Seriously, the only reason why I dont go pickup most of the items I buy, is because I need to free up a timeframe ranging anywhere from 1 to 6 hours depending if I get a breeze or gale. (sometimes I can even swim faster for Mag's sake).

The only thing that can redeem this gaggle change would be for Rolf to follow it up (and quickly) with a total fix for the mail system so that what can be mailed makes sense to be mailed and what can't be mailed makes sense that it cannot be mailed. I hope such a change is imminent.
  31. 3 points
Sail there is not often the major problem, time zones are. Mailbox solved both at once ... I do not want even count how may times I delivered goods to customer in (only) few hours sailing, but I spent there several days waiting, till we was able to meet, cause he was from other side of world :/ More things mailable can help solve that issue, but no ... Dev thinks, even more nerfing is the right way

Words fail me tbh, but that is a good thing. Those words would get me banned anyway.

Should remove the magical enchanting too, and the magical disappearing when you log off, or the magical way money gets taken form your deed coffers for upkeep, etc etc? There's a balance between fun and work. Would have to be making a lot of silver for me to be bothered to go from Chaos to say, pristine for a delivery, which would normally have cost 20c and saved people wasting hours of time achieving next to nothing. But eh, I don't really do much trading, so it's of minor effect to me.
  34. 3 points
thats not true at all! if i would have a nice market 20 mins around i would travel but i would need to spend 2-4 hours just for 1 rakeor shovel or whatever. that doesnt make any sense! and im not a hermit or anything but my alliance cant provide everything.
  35. 3 points
Wurm has become the game where you want to go places, you want to see and do stuff but you can't because if you have even the slightest hint at a real life you don't have the time to go anywhere by boat. The game world has increased in size but nothing has been done to compensate for this.

I have been against the Chaos Towers being able to be mailed as unfinished items to the Freedom servers since I heard about it... But I keep my opinion to myself. I did not say anything to anyone about how I felt. I figured this being a sandbox game if some Players wanted these BL towers and such then good for them. Let them have them. I build only Freedom Isles Towers myself and what others want to build is their decision. I assumed because the Devs didn't stop this as soon as someone tried it I assumed the Devs had decided to allow it... like any team of reasonable professionals might have done. So I kept my dislike for the other kingdom towers on Xanadu to myself. Now the Devs disallow the sending of these in the mail, even though the Devs failed to stop it before now and it has going on for many weeks??? What gives? Unfair. Totally Unfair. If the Devs didn't want this they should have stopped it from the beginning. Devs are NOT supposed to advance an online game by blindly injecting content and making random changes just to see how the Players react and rage. We are not lab rats. I'm getting the impression that's how business is done at CodeClub. And this opinion is coming from a Player that does NOT think they should have been allowed to mail the other kingdom towers in the first place. You Devs let the Players get used to this and comfortable and now you pull the meditation rug out from underneath them. big fat -1 and "UnLike" ( no I don't want any tower except the freedom isles ones, but even I see this as a decision that is going to make a lot of Players angry, a situation that could and should have been avoided.)

Next week to mail something u must first sail to the Mailbox destination and right click Spirit Castle -> "Allow Item Be Droped On Ground In Pile" get a 4 digit code u recieve through regular email. Sail back home and type in the same correct 4 digit code to be able to send mail. Whisper the correct code to buyer that can retrieve mail, between 10o'clock to 12o'clock monday to friday, not on holidays.

You're complaining about an item you got for free, being changed so that it's no longer a "save-your-ass failsafe", and to top it all off you want to receive "compensation" for it? There's nothing to even compensate, these items were given out for free. If you bought one, that was outside the game and you did so on your own accord knowing full-well that things get changed and nerfed daily in Wurm, and that Farwalkers were entirely overpowered as anyone obviously knew who spent an absurd amount of real-life money on them, yeah? Hilarious. You should be grateful that you were able to use them to cheat death as long as you did. Get over yourself, please. In short, -1, but I don't even think this needs opinions.. its a borderline troll-post. The hypocrisy here is both hysterical and overwhelmingly mind-numbing at the same time.

The devs already know this for a month now, information has been passed to them by several people. still impossible for them to get outside properly. I"m still waiting for the moment they just TP outside mines to solve this issue. Nobody is against that idea really, only the people that want to pen/keep them to prevent others from getting them.

yah this is the new method in which people secure dragons to then hunt as part of a smaller group to reap rewards among a select few vs community opportunity to partake. i saw this coming as greed always dominates. there needs to be a middle ground..for the massive public slayings with 70 alts to gather loot with 40 fighters is overkill n lag crashy behind belief and hide dole next to nothing. yet private exclusive hunts seem to be a bit greedy and anti community such as penning practices that have been supposedly prohibited from the past for same reasons/.

I prefer the blanket approach of nothing decaying on deeds at all, when placed/dropped there by the mayor or its citizens, with the deed upkeep at over 30 days. The only real problem I could see arising from this would be as Othob mentioned, bulk items left out that might fill up the database creating lag issues, so this might have to be exempted from the no-decay process. The main point here as I see it is that these no-decay extended features should be benefits given to those who pay for deeds and their upkeep. Another added benefit that makes deeds more desirable, encouraging their placement, upkeep and in turn the games profits derived from this integral feature of the game. Also, I would remove any bin items loss over time upon deeds as well. Seems pointless to me to reduce the quantities of items stored within bins over time by any percentage anyway, since these items are stored in a manner off the actively displayed items within the game. Why create a situation where players must replenish what they have already harvested due to this loss? This should at least be exempted within deed storage for an additional perk. =Ayes=
